Ryan Clark Calls Sean Payton a Thug (2 Viewers)

That's why certain people are upset
It's a bad look, period. I understand this is a business decision, but the fact that Russ was playing better and the idea that a guy like Russ would waive an injury guarantee is just dumb. Sean has been engaging in theater with Russ as if he were some rook or something. I don't think it's racial or anything like that, but it could have been handled better in public.

It annoyed me when Clark brought up Brees kissing more babies. Truth is Brees never got benched because he handled his business. Wilson hasn’t been good for a while.
He’s still playing like one of the best when the pocket breaks down (6th in ANY/A), but Payton wants a QB who can run his offense (Wilson ranks 22nd in ANY/A when not pressured).

Numbers never tell the full story. If they did, Carr would be having a decent year but we all know he’s not.
It's not just numbers; he was playing better, and they were on a winning streak. I'm not claiming he was in his prime but this is not a performance issue, Sean wants his own guy.

We’ll see what the market is for russell wilson soon, but i bet a lot of teams who need a qb would rather get one in the draft.

Would you take him right now to be the saints new qb ?
The way our line is playing it might make sense, but I’ll still go with no.

Edit: to add more detail, I posted these Wilson stats in another thread.

He’s further down the list on stats that try to add more context:

17th in ANY/A
22nd in DVOA
21st in DYAR
19th in EPA/DB
21st in QBR

I don't get the big deal. Russ got paid a MASSIVE contract, they spent a ton of draft capital, and gave him a bunch of extra concessions. And for all their trouble he's been extremely disappointing. I know he's "gotten better lately", but his numbers are still nowhere near worth his contract and trade price. I would do the same. Drop this clause or see you later, because you've been a big disappointment.

I want Sean to fail as much as the next guy, but I recall the media absolutely dragging Russ last year for being awful. Now all of sudden he's some sympathetic figure because SP doesn't want to tie his tenure in Denver to a sinking anchor. And surprise surprise, ESPN is right there to blow their "racism" dog whistle.

Right? He’s 35 years old too. How much “better” is he going to get?

Ryan Clark sounds like he has an axe to grind. Stop acting like we all didn't hear about what was going on with Russ in the Broncos organization before Sean Payton got there. Sean Payton needed to set the tone to change a terrible culture that was taken advantage of by a washed up, overpaid, prima donna of a QB.

Ryan Clark always talks like he is crying.

I don't doubt that at all but they'll always be a team willing to sign a proven vet like Russ. I mean, guys with lesser resumes have gotten 150 mil guaranteed, I hear. :funny1:

Payton came in here got rid of the greatest Wide Receiver the Saints had up to that point because his whole plan to was to make sure everyone knew who the boss was. I mean that's a positive in my opinion... Although, I would rather have Horn be able to retire a Saint without having to be a Falcon first.
