Saints @ 49ers last year (3 Viewers)

You're right, being up 32-29 with 40 seconds left and the 49ers nowhere near field goal position was inadequate on the offenses part.

Being up 32 to 29 when we should've already had it sealed up is the offenses fault

So I take it we don't need a defense? Why did we bring Spags in? Cause in your mind, theres no point having a defense, because they should always have sealed the game with 80+ points, to ensure that when the other team gets the ball they don't actually have enough time to run it into the end zone enough times?

That is your theory on defense right? I havn't misinterpreted? :smilielol:

You both make valid points. Its a combination of everything. If it wasnt for the turnovers the niners wouldnt even have a chance to win at the end. But also the defense didnt stop them when they needed to. So it is a combination of things. But i still believe that the one thing that hurt us the worst was when we lost PT on the opening drive.

Lol there is absolutely no sense in arguin with ur brain. That's absurd

Nowhere did I mention any of that anywhere ever

The 49ers defense caused turnovers all year long just like the 09 Saints. It's a part of the game you deal with.

Which is a huge reason why they won so many games

You win the turnover battle and ur going to win games. Thank you for proving my point

But the offense lost us the game right?

Thats your argument?

Well assuming you agree with me that 4 of the main players in our offense are Brees, Graham, Sproles and Colston... if you could just show all of us here which tackles they missed that allowed the niners to drive down the field and win the game, then I will sit back and except that this was entirely the offenses fault.

Listen, I'm so sick and tired of people saying it was the offense or the defense because we all know it was the SPECIAL TEAMS. Roby and Sprolles fumbled. Come on fellas. Brees threw 2 picks, one of which was a punt. The PT fumble hurt and I still think it should have been flagged even if it was a legal hit. You know they would have flagged the Saints if they had done it. That was a bogus call.

What a perfect storm though. Meachem got hurt, we had no Lance Moore. I'm pretty sure Lance Moore would have made the difference. Lets not forget what happened with Chris Ivory not knowing how to do anything but run the ball. Gimme a break, how could you have an offense where Ivory couldn't be in for a screen? Gimme a break, really?

I put this loss on Sean Payton. He got outcoached by Jim Harbaugh. That's pretty sad.

My argument is that turnovers played a much larger role in the loss than anything else

The offense didn't lose us the game but they did turn the ball over 3 times. Roby also fumbled twice inside our own 30 but nobody barely even mentions that

5 turnovers leading to at least 17 points

It was a combination of all 3 units, But I'd say you have to give a small majority to the defense, seeing as they had the biggest chance to stop us losing at the end.
But every unit contributed obviously, If the special teams had made up for it with a KR TD on the last play, we would say they'd redeemed themselves, same as the offense did.

But obviously it all adds up, just one unit had the biggest chance to ensure we won, and they blew it. And thats gotta be the defense.

I am going to say this ONE LAST TIME and then im done with this subject. We lost the game because PT GOT HURT.

When PT got hurt we became predictable. Sproles was trying to take the whole team on his back and it just wasnt enough. Ivory was a non factor because he was one dimensional in that game. With no PT or Ingram, we had no every down back. That is why we forced ourselves into making mistakes. That is why Roby handled that kickoff in the first place. That is why Sproles fumbled the punt. He was over worked. THAT IS WHY WE LOST THE GAME.

It's pretty simple. GW went for the kill-shot and didn't get there. It belongs right up there with the team's all-time heartbreakers. Even now, I can't look at video of the Sproles TD or the Graham TD without tearing up a little. A bit like looking at a photo of a friend or family member right before they died. That might sound a little crazy, but it was THAT wrenching.

Wrenching? Yeah I hear ya!! I was living in SF at the time and watched that game in a bar full of Whiner fans and I took on a verbal assault for about 6 consecutive hours after that game.

I really had no defense for our D or GW. That game and the average price of a house being around $800k made it very easy for me to move back home.:9:

Turnovers don't matter, when you're up with a minute and change left.. And your defense allows a mediocre offense to move the ball the length of the field/score. Period.. end of story. Move on, and hope that Spags can improve things.

This is insane. Turnovers absolutely matter. If you could isolate everything down to one drive, your logic works, but if we don't give them FIVE ADDITIONAL POSSESSIONS, that drive becomes of no consequence and we win going away.

You only get an average of 12 possessions in a game, and we gave away 5 of ours. Essentially 7 possessions to 17: you will lose almost every time.

Being up 32 to 29 when we should've already had it sealed up is the offenses fault

Canton, so base on your logic, it is the Saints Offensive fault for scoring only 32 points against the #1 defensive. And the Saints Defense bear no responsibility for allowing an inept 49ers Offense to score 36 points. Really....?:smilielol:
