Saints and Carr deal released $150M over 4 years $100M fully guaranteed (2 Viewers)

100M guaranteed is not a 2yr deal given our cap. He’s our QB for 3-4yrs.
Sounds like $30 million of that guarantee could be injury guarantees just by the way the description is worded. We will see once all the details come out.

I guess you are you trying to sound sarcastic.

No doubt about it. Just wait until Lamar Jackson signs. And Daniel Jones. I think Loomis made the best deal he possibly could in this market. They refuse to leave the table so this is the price of poker. I'm good with it.
Also Herbert and Hurts deals are coming...
I don't think this all could have worked out much better, esp considering where we were with Watson a year ago--that is an albatross contract and would have cost us a near franchise crippling amount of draft capital.

Looking to the draft and free agency, what scared me the most about this deal is that means the Saints are all in and will use money and picks to make a run hopefully happen. While the money and picks themselves do not scare me, the mortgaging of the future, trading picks from this year and next year scare the crap out of me. Hopefully Dennis and Pete prove me wrong but if this doesn't work it slows down a rebuild and gives what should be a new coach less and less to work with when he gets here.

What future has been mortgaged? We have a 1st this year which actually puts us as a +1 in 1sts since 2020. We have 8 picks in the 2023 draft which includes the 7th round comp pick. Next year we have most of our picks except the 2nd and 7th, but we have an additional 6th. Depending on who we lose in FA and what they do, we could end up with a 3rd round comp. If Dav leaves and breaks out, that might be a 3rd round comp. Either way, being down a 2nd isn't that big of a deal considering we still have the 1st and 3rd. I just don't see how the future is mortgaged with any of the recent moves. Also, the FO has all of this planned out and looking ahead at the age of some players, my guess is this year we get some pieces to prepare for the eventual departure of Cam and Dav.

Derek Carr is a good culture fit. The two most prominent recent leaders of the Saints Drew Brees and Demario Davis are highly religious people (Christian.) This fits with the Benson family as well as several other Saints players carrying out their faith in how they present themselves in social media and community action. It is one reason a player like Aaron Rogers would be a poor culture fit. Winston had a similar fit but with the injuries and lack of on-field commitment from the coaching staff after still starting Dalton, signing Carr makes a lot of sense. It also fits with the franchise name for whatever that might mean.

Michael Thomas tweeted "Thank you Jesus" to signing Carr. Who knows if that means this had to happen for Thomas to consider a second restructure to stay or that he just wishes the best for the team Thomas is still technically signed. With fitting a $30 million a year QB, it signals to me as many restructures as the Saints can do, Hill and Davis were announced today. Andrus Peat might be cut. If Michael Thomas does come back it has to be because he wants to be here and is taking a pay cut and maybe they needed time to work on the deal or most likely just a post June 1 cut. Either way, Carr is an answer to the most important personnel question facing this franchise in the post Brees era.

The Raiders have been a bad team for a long time, particularly in drafting and defense. The Raiders offense with Michael Crabtree and Amari Cooper was good in Carr's early years. Last year with Devonte Adams never panned out as Walker at TE was hurt. I think McDaniels wants his guy at QB whoever that might be and the Raiders wanted a fresh start with a lower cap number or maybe they have an inroad with Aaron Rogers. I have seen Carr go to battle in the AFC West with other top QBs and at times take down Mahomes and Herbert. Carr has fight and the ability to create 4th quarter comebacks. I think that is the biggest thing I am looking forward to over Winston or Dalton. When the game is on the line and when we need a drive I have at least some hope where I did not trust Winston's decision making or Dalton's talent, at least with Carr we have a chance to be competitive.

Every deal you look at the guaranteed money, that’s all that matters. Looks like majority of guaranteed 60 mill is front loaded making the end of the contract easy to get out of without a lot dead money. If he was guaranteed 150 of 150 then yeah I’d said he’s our QB for 4 years but doesn’t appear to be written that way

I'm happy for the veteran group of the team, since this also is a vote of confidence for them...
