Saints are flying Kafka and Weaver in for 2nd interview (199 Viewers)

Both of these candidates would be incredibly underwhelming.

I know a load of Saints fans would get their hopes up to a new beginning. But this screams to me that we'll be a .500 team on average at best and constantly picking 8 - 21 every year in the draft for a handful of years.

I don't know enough about these two coaches to have an opinion. But I do like that we are considering candidates who are not necessarily at the top of their national lists. If they think one of these two is the right guy, they should go for it. Apparently, both have been impressive in interview with multiple teams in recent years.

You have to interview two minority candidates in person. Not sure how Kafka identifies. Weaver was a given as he and AG could be the only minorities interviewed.

I’ve already found out, that I’m either in the minority, or alone with saying that Kafka had little or nothing to do with Mahomes being great. Flame away

I'm right there with you. You're not alone. Kafka had absolutely very little to do with Mahomes success. That's all well known by Chiefs fans to be Reid, Kelce and Mahomes himself.

Yes. Kelce had a lot to do with Mahomes growth in terms of film study, audibles, what to look for, etc etc.

Let's be clear, here. We're not getting one of the glamour candidates. The 'hot young things' are going elsewhere, where things are definitively more attractive and either a well regarded young QB or high draft pick are in place.

(Johnson won't be coming here, even for an interview. So all the breathless mentions of his name need to end.)

That leaves the solid, unspectacular leader of men coaching candidates, whose names you'll know from the last two to three rounds of NFL hiring cycles. The likes of the Bears and Jets will get first pick of the Carrolls, McCarthys and Glenns, leaving the Saints to pick what they can from the remainders. The only bonus is that Jones will likely sign someone sub-optimal, just to ensure he has a submissive HC or an easy out if they fail.

But to be fair, I was hardly excited about CSP and wanted Gary Kubiak, so ultimately you never know.

BINGO!!!

Kafka is considered Puerto Rican, so this pair of interviews, legitimate or not, definitely check a box.

EDIT: Lots of conflicting info online about Kafka’s classification given that his grandparents are Puerto Rican, but this seems solid…

Kafka's offensive approach has been famous for a long time - some would say it is unnecessarily complicated, but it frustrates and confuses the defense because you don't know where it is coming from, which principles they are following, who is doing things, or why they are doing it to you.
And neither does the offense!

Some guys are just built different (physically and mentally). In my mind, coaching tends to get too much credit for success and failure in the league.

Right after being drafted, Peyton Manning practically locked himself in an apartment and started studying game film with Arians of all the opponents he would face in his first season. He wasn’t even under contract, so it was technically against league rules, but that guy was a pure competitor that had the talent to go along with it. Did Arians make Manning an elite QB, or was success his destiny?

Fast forward to this year, and you have rookie QB Jayden Daniels running the first team offense through practice drills on his own in training camp during breaks. Again, a pure competitor who wants to win, who also has elite QB skills. Did Kingsbury create Daniels, or was success almost inevitable?

Talent trumps coaching in the NFL, particularly at QB.

They have already checked the Rooney Rule box prior to these interviews. They must have heard something they liked about these two in the first round of interviews

To my knowledge, we haven’t had any in-person interviews, which is a requirement for compliance. I could be wrong though and missed someone.
