Saints are flying Kafka and Weaver in for 2nd interviews [Interviews completed] (6 Viewers)

Right. Correct in all. But what are we going to do with that exactly? Have a good defense and no franchise QB so our odds at deep playoff runs are extremely unlikely? Or are you expecting a defensive head coach to accurately assess QB talent, groom that QB into a successful franchise QB which has only happened like once or twice in the NFL over the past 10 years when compared to offensive head coaches who have done it closer to a dozen times in the same duration?

I'm struggling to understand exactly what we're shooting for here. Just to be competitive during the season? Have we reached that level of desperation?
We are reaching that level of desperation. But what’s missing in this conversation is can any of the coordinator candidates lead a large group of men, and be the face of the franchise, having to deal with the media, fan pressure, and ownership. It takes much larger shoulders to handle the HC job compared to a coordinator position.

So the solution, because you’re right about an offensive minded coach having a better winning record, is that you hire an offensive minded HC that has already proven that he can handle the job of HC. And that he can not only handle the HC but win at a slightly better clip than our ALL TIME greatest HC in Sean Payton. Mike Mcarthy is a slam dunk hire if I’ve ever seen one.

I was thinking the same thing, especially the Giants’ OC.
Lets see the Dolphins defense was not good and the Giants offense was pitiful.

Im.not happy the Saints are exploring this route. They were not kidding in a bad way about unturning every stone
Problem is these are bad ones

Probably thinking too hard about this, but perhaps the fact we want to quickly knock out the two Rooney Rule compliance interviews this week could have meaning, especially considering Glenn eventually would have qualified as one.

As in, we want to be able to hire someone quickly, relatively soon.

…or these could be perfectly legitimate, of course.

Kafka must have impressed them; he is an up-and-coming coach, and league circles have him marked as such.

Coaching for an HC who calls plays can have outside people thinking these are his schemes when they are Dabolls and Dabolls call the plays.

We had the same argument for Payton, pointing out how his play-calling duties were stripped from him under Fassell, but he was still considered a rising coach by league circles.

This is just to make everyone feel better when it’s McCarthy

As far as I know, we don't even have an interview scheduled with McCarthy. Not sure if that signals lack of interest on his part or the Saints' part but we clearly aren't in hot pursuit.

Occam's Razor would suggest that bringing in Kafka and Weaver for 2nd round/in person interviews means they are among our top choices.

I’ve already found out, that I’m either in the minority, or alone with saying that Kafka had little or nothing to do with Mahomes being great. Flame away

Impossible for you to say. Nobody knows this unless you where in that QB room.

Is it fair to give him all of the credit? No. But it's also not fair to remove all credit.

I don't know enough about these two coaches to have an opinion. But I do like that we are considering candidates who are not necessarily at the top of their national lists. If they think one of these two is the right guy, they should go for it. Apparently, both have been impressive in interview with multiple teams in recent years.
This. And the Saints have to be in Rooney Rule compliance. Everyone has to let the process play itself out.

This. I do not want a situation where the media and fan sentiment dictate the hire. That's how we got Mike Ditka.
