Saints are flying Kafka and Weaver in for 2nd interviews [Interviews completed] (4 Viewers)

As far as I know, we don't even have an interview scheduled with McCarthy. Not sure if that signals lack of interest on his part or the Saints' part but we clearly aren't in hot pursuit.

Occam's Razor would suggest that bringing in Kafka and Weaver for 2nd round/in person interviews means they are among our top choices.

I’m skeptical on the legitimacy of Kafka.

This. I do not want a situation where the media and fan sentiment dictate the hire. That's how we got Mike Ditka.
And it is worth noting that both are highly regarded around the league. I’ll be a “little” surprised if either is chosen based on what I’ve heard but they are serious candidates (notwithstanding Rooney compliance) who impressed in the initial round of interviews. This is not the end of the process, just the next step in it. Kafka is intriguing though I think Brady and Glenn are ahead.

First confirmed 2nd interview

I’m sure these guys are great. They deserve a shot at some point, somewhere. But, please, Mickey- these guys do not come from winning cultures. One of them isn’t offensive minded, and the other has been behind a horrible offense. I hope this is more about the experience for the candidates, and the organizational exercise.

Kafka must have impressed them; he is an up-and-coming coach, and league circles have him marked as such.

Coaching for an HC who calls plays can have outside people thinking these are his schemes when they are Dabolls and Dabolls call the plays.

We had the same argument for Payton, pointing out how his play-calling duties were stripped from him under Parcels, but he was still considered a rising coach by league circles.
I think jim fassel took csp playcalling duties. I could be wrong

It was a joke

I know. But its fun at times.

You like conspiracy theories? Here’s one…

- There has been rumored strong interest in a Saints and McCarthy reunion, with reports first surfacing of this possibility in early January.

- There has been rumored strong interest in a Saints and Glenn reunion.

- Glenn just recently became available for in-person interviews, and we have yet to hear of any scheduled with us (I know, it’s early), though rumor has it he prefers the Jets job

- There is a rumored “early week” interview set to occur with McCarthy this week, but oddly no firm date has been confirmed as of yet

- Out of the blue, probably two of the less heralded candidates from our virtual interviews who happen to be minorities (the only two I believe) are scheduled on the same day for in-person interviews, with the backdrop of the elusive McCarthy interview still not finalized.

- Glenn would have provided one of the Rooney checkboxes in an organic fashion as a legitimate candidate, but perhaps it has been made known that he is destined for elsewhere (NYJ).

- Saints scramble, knowing that they will definitely hire a certain someone imminently since it is known behind the scenes that Glenn is taken, and they are forced to take care of the Rooney checkboxes with Kafka and Weaver immediately

- Rumored McCarthy interview is scheduled and commences, and if things go as planned, they hire him on the spot.

Second interview for Glenn in New York, “expected” to schedule one with New Orleans…

The Kafka interest is based on his history with Andy Reid. Daboll controls the New York offense. Weaver is apparently very well respected, but I do not know anything about his coaching history. At the end of the day, it's extremely difficult to gauge who will be a good, much less great, HC. Many people thought Payton would be a dud because of his struggles as Giants OC and Saban would be the next coming of Belichek because of his success at every college stop he made leading up to the Dolphins job.

I dunno, I kinda like a Kingsbury/rattler combo. Still debating

The one thing he’ll do is find a QB. He had Case Keenum in Houston, Manziel at A&M, Mayfield and Mahomes at Texas Tech, and had ROY QBs in Arizona and now Washington. I don’t know if it would work out or not but I think we’d have a big piece (QB) when he left.

McDermott has done a good job with Allen. Quinn with Daniels. Ryans with Stroud.
Allen - 7th overall pick
Stroud - 2nd overall pick
Daniels - 2nd overall pick

The Saints haven’t drafted a QB in the first two rounds since Archie Manning.

The Saints’ strategy is draft QB late/FA QB and a defensive minded head coach in that situation is a mistake. They need a QB guru as a head coach if they’re gonna be in that situation, so that they can get the most out of lesser talented QB’s. They can’t rely on an offensive assistant with that responsibility given how important the QB position is in the NFL IMO.

Bad hire compared to Brady, but great hire over Kafka and Kingsbury.

Your crushing my hopes for the team!

I think I would rather take a chance on Glenn.
