Saints at the top of Davante Adams’ wish list [Raiders trade Adams to Jets for conditional 3rd ; Jets paying Adams’ entire remaining salary] (6 Viewers)

At this point with Carr out for a while, a fan created QB controversy and the rest of the team being pretty banged up I don't see us being in play anymore. Especially if Adams wants to play with his college QB, wants to win and wants some of that money from the next two years of his contract. We're just not able to promise those things.

He may eventually end up getting traded, but I doubt it's to us. I'm thinking a team looking at a deep playoff run that needs one more weapon that can afford to pay what he has left this year without messing with the future. The Steelers fit that with a ton of cap space and an extra 5th and two extra 7th rounders next year. A team like the Cowboys might get into it as well, just because they are the Cowboys and are due some comp picks in 2025 as well. The Bills would have to move some money around as their cap is a bit tight as well.

Obviously you have not read a lot of the posts in this thread. This is NOT about just this yr. Getting Adans and signing him for another 2-3 yrs is also about getting the most value out of AK, Demario, Taysom, Honey Badger, Lattimore , and Carr , who have maybe 2-3 yrs left. It puts us in contention for the NFCCG, especially with the landscape the NFC is in now .
NOTHING guarantees that we win it all, but it gives us the best shot in the next 2-3 yrs . If it does not happen THEN we can blow it up
Can we possibly get Adams and sign Kamara to a new contract? And wouldn’t that keep us in cap space jail for at least four more years?

All of those players I mentioned are under contract for next yr except AK and some for the next 2 yrs. To not take advantage of what they have left would be a mistake. Signing Adams, extending AK to 2 maybe 3 yrs would not give us cap relief, but really if we are in contention for at least the NFCCG does it really matter? We could run it like that for a couple yrs , use our draft capitol to fill some holes on the OL and DL and if we don't make the SB in 2 yrs just blow it up

No we can't do both and we shouldn't do either. I love AK, but he's turning 30 next season and we shouldn't use cap space we don't have on his inevitable decline years. That is what we're doing with Cam right now. It's just not good roster strategy. Adams is already 31 and has his most expensive years left on his contract. We should build the team the way great teams are built, young players through the draft.

I agreed with you on AK before I saw what his production could be this yr AND how much of a work load he could handle even while hurting. I think AK ha 2 more yrs and that's what I would offer him on a guarantee. Why do you think that Adams is going to get even close to that big contract from whoever he goes to? I think we have all of the players I mentioned on the same length of contracts. 2, 3yrs most. Then if we don't make the SB, or heck even if we do, blow it all up and rebuild or ride it till age catches up, but not extending their contracts beyond those 2-3 yrs

I don't want to blow it up, I want to clean it up and start building the future now. Adams isn't the future, he is some other teams past. The other players are under contract, but simply aren't good enough or young enough to get us there anymore. And I love a lot of those guys. DD is nearly done. He's 35 years old and blink away from falling off like Cam. HB is the same, he's going to lose a step against young guys soon. Taysom can't keep playing the way he's playing. He's too old and he gets hurt. Latt is great but is on and off disgruntled and about to get really expensive. It's not time to get older and more expensive.

I feel like you're hanging on to the present and I'm ready to get moving on to the future after a failed attempt at extending the success we had with Sean and Drew. It was a valiant effort, but I believe in our preseason prospects less and less every season and hope fades earlier every season.

If we Saints fans should know anything with 100% certainty it's that we shouldn't bother ever worrying about the cap or money. It's simply irrelevant to Loomis if and when he decides he needs something., he simply does it.

What?!?! Ponzie scheme I tell you!

*insert Nick Wright meme that I can't find*

🤣

This is the raiders organization leaking false information to drive Saints or Jets closer to their asking price. Bills do not want another Diggs, they want team chemistry. Josh Allen says Buffalo is where "everybody eats" that doesn't sound like a team that's gonna sneak in and trade for a now twice disgruntled WR.

They REALLY like their young guys, Shakir and Coleman, and have good depth with Hollins and Samuel.

This Bills bit is a smokescreen.
Bills offense has looked really bad and it’s obvious that they need a receiver. They don’t even have a guy capable of being a good WR2

I feel like what isn’t being acknowledged here w/ regards to Adams is that you have youth and talent at WR already. Tipton, Olave, Bub Means, and Shaheed are all on rookie contracts. I get the age, comparison to Cam but at DE because of misses in Davenport and Turner and now Foskey, the cupboard is fairly bare. So having a declining vet on a high contract in Jordan is bad management.

You can’t say that about WR. In fact the average age of the WR room is 24.8 years of age.

It NEEDS a vet more than another young talent.

As of right now that veteran WR has $82 million left on his contract. Do we need that?
