Saints at the top of Davante Adams’ wish list [Raiders trade Adams to Jets for conditional 3rd ; Jets paying Adams’ entire remaining salary] (8 Viewers)

MY GOD, it's his actual current contract. Who in their right mind is throwing that away to go play for a 2-3 team with a busted QB and O Line? What players agent is going to do that?

Just because you want to think everyone is going to just tear up contracts and throw away money to play on the Saints doesn't make it so. There are at least a half dozen teams that could absorb that contract and deal with it later. We are not one of those teams because his contract isn't going from $81 million to even half of that. Dude isn't going to play for free.
BY all that is holy. It does NOT matter what the remaining yrs on his deal are !!!! . They are NOT GUARANTEED . which means that NO TEAM is obligated to honor it . He can be CUT with no financial obligation!!!!. Adams has NO SAY if he gets cut to avoid those yrs and that 71 mil SMH . C'mon man . NO matter what him or his agent want

Ignoring that the NFL is a business with big money tied up in it and not a fairy tale where teams reduce players contracts by 10s of millions of dollars so they can play with their friends, is annoying.
Nowhere did I say or even imply that. You implied the Saints would have to pay that. Under no circumstances would they, so your bellyaching about his contract is complete nonsense.

LOL not only will the Saints not pay that 71 mil for those 2 yrs but NO TEAM will . Either he re-negotiates his last 2 yrs maybe for an extension or he get's CUT

I understand that, but they are going to want something in return in order to rip that contract up. What can the Saints realistically offer unless we're writing up a 5+ year contract with 3+ void years in it and a ton of guaranteed money in the form of a signing bonus. For a 31 year old receiver during one of the worst time for injuries the team has faced in years.

The Raiders are also going to want something in return. The $ value of a mid 2nd round pick is less that $6 million. The Raiders are asking for that AND to not take on any of his salary, as they are already taking the remainder of his signing bonus on as dead money, which is more than $23 million hit from 24-26.

What NFL team or player or agents are going to make it so easy for the Saints to get all of the benefits and none of the losses? It doesn't make any logic business sense for the Saints to get him unless they do something drastically stupid to do so. So many other teams have room to do it.
I'm beginning to suspect this is going to last until the trade deadline where someone will cave and the Raiders will have to agree to take most of the remaing salary for a 3rd and the receiving team will have to hope he will agree to a new deal in the off season or release him.

LOL by the deadline we could almost eat the rest of his salary this yr

Pretty much. He's either staying with the Raiders and getting cut at the end of the season or whenever that deadline hits, or he gets traded on a rental and the new team takes their chances negotiating a new contract or cut him after this season.

He's certainly not gonna get paid his remaining non-guaranteed contract beyond this season.

And while it would be nice to have him, only for the right price and circumstances. As you rightfully pointed out, his current contract is irrelevant beyond this season.

The Raiders love dead money.

Come on guys, the math really isn't that hard. Under your premise of get him now, cut him before next year. He makes ~$1 million a week. Including this week there are 12 weeks left, so ~$12 million plus his per game roster bonuses. The Saints have roughly $3 million left in cap space for 2024. They need to keep a big part of that to work the bottom of the roster week to week. Nearly all of Adams contract would need to be converted to a signing bonus. If the trade happened today and they were forced to cut him before the beginning of the next season the Saints would have to take on that $12 million as dead cap. That would move the cap they need to shed to $93 million before the beginning of the league year, before dealing with the likely retirements of Cam Jordan and Ryan Ramczyk which will add even more.

For a guy who turns 32 in December, and is either disgruntled or injured. To a team that has a real possibility of being 2-5 by next Friday.

No we can't. At the trade deadline he will still be owed at least $8M for this year. Per OTC the Saints have currently have $2.5M in space for this year. Unless they get Kamara to agree to a new deal those numbers don't work. Kamara stated after training camp that the time for negotiations are over until after the season so that may not happen.

I'm not arguing that we should sign him for all of that. They can wait until the trade deadline and make the Raiders sweat. And Loomis can do what he knows how to do. I don't know what his plan would be, but it certainly won't involve Adams' remaining current contract. It would be a simple transaction, but teams have made trades like that work before.

And I'm also on record saying that I think the trade probably won't happen at this point. The interested teams all have either cap issues or not ideal situations, so as much as Adams might want out, there aren't a lot of options for him. He does have leverage in that he can just sit on the bench and get paid millions for the rest of the season until the Raiders cut him.
