I wonder what Geno and Darnold getI think "explore the market" means he wanted to see what his market value was before actually renegotiating the contract, similar to what Stafford and the Rams did. I don't think it necessarily means Carr wanted to leave the team. He might have wanted to leave, but he might have just wanted to find out his market value before doing a new contract.
It's a possibility. It's also a possibility that Carr wanted to move on.That's an interesting argument. I can see that.
Aside from the financial ramifications, this is the other part people just fail to want to accept. Our coach, who has watched actual film and has a better idea than anyone how Carr’s game could translate, actually wants the player, and the player is not as bad as he’s characterized as.
Like what makes this player so god awful to where people are acting like they want to jump off a bridge behind this news? Like we just gave the worst QB in the history of the league a new guaranteed $50 million a year deal or something.
It's possible Carr's current contract is good value relative to the current market.I wonder what Geno and Darnold get
Will it be 45-50 mil avg?
We didn't roll all $30 million, we rolled all $40 million. He had a $10 million roster bonus that got restructured and that is why his cap number is league minimum base plus his prorated signing bonus. They kicked every bit of that can they could get their foot on. Even Grupe would be impressed with Loomis' foot.
There’s only one position the Saints should go “all in” for, that’s QB. If they truly felt injuries held this team back it means that they think they can win w/ the team close to as it is now, just with some tweaks but mostly good health. We don’t need to go “all in” per se. We just need to make roster improvements while being responsible with who we select.
Your salary cap “landing zone” for 2026/2027 isn’t changing as drastically as it is being characterized by trying to win now.
As I and others have indicated, including Nick and Trip on occasion…you’d basically be throwing a year just for the sake of throwing a year; there’s very little benefit to throwing in the towel on 2025.
Can you provide a link to a source that someone on the Saints staff said they wanted Carr to take a paycut.Last year, the Saints didn't ask Carr to take a paycut. They restructured and were happy to pay him at that rate. This year, after their 2nd season w/ him, were unwilling to pay him at that price and approached about a paycut.
Peter Finney once called Mike Ditka a “visitor to New Orleans.” That feels like it fits here. At least for now. Carr might not even be interested in connecting with the fan base at this point. He might just be here to play football and get stats and try to win games. If he connects with his teammates and his coaches, and that leads to better production, that’s ultimately all that matters.

All I ever saw were people speculating about how the Saints were going to ask him to take a paycut or that they should ask him to take a pay cut.
Loomis said Carr was staying and they had to work out his contract. People assumed that meant the Saints were asking him to take a paycut.
There are a lot of possible things that could have been worked out on his contract that aren't paycuts.
