Saints draft WR Chris Olave (1 Viewer)

He runs a 4.39. That’s really fast.
Just checked. 8th fastest time among the WRs. This is fast indeed. I guess they were comparing his speed
with the other top WRs.

Funny how last college football season, Chris Olave was the most talked about player getting drafted by us. Just crazy how this all worked out. He was ours since last season😂
I mean, he played for OSU. Was there ever a question?

This team is loaded on offense. They have fixed the oline. Everyone is coming back healthy. The defense is a monster. No reason why this team can’t win the South and go deep into the playoffs. It’s young on both sides of the ball and can look for Jordan’s replacement over the next couple of years. Reminds me of Dallas in the early 90s. Loomis and Ireland have done well building this team in only two years after Brees.

my favorite part about Olave is his ability to create separation with his route running. One of the main reasons is because of his insane acceleration. As far as the combine goes, he’s in the top 99.6% for 10 yard dash and top 99.8% for the 20 yard dash all time.

Uh…, what the heck are you even talking about???!!!

For 16 we traded back from 18 to 19 and gave up a 2022 3rd, 7th, 2023 1st, and 2024 2nd. To move from 16 to 11 we gave up 2022 3rd and 4th round picks.

The total for Olave is trade back from 18 to 19, 2022 3rd, 2022 3rd, 2022 4th, 2022 7th, 2023 1st, and 2024 2nd.

And should be set at receiver for the next 5 years. Those 3rd, 4th, and 7th round picks and the 1st and 2nd will probably be really late round picks. This whole team should be set for at least five years considering the age of the players. Winston is 27 I believe.

OK, so the cost for Olave and Penning together + a 2022 sixth round (#194) is:
2022 #18 (1st)
2022 #98 (3rd)
2022 #101 (3rd)
2022 #120 (4th)
2022 #237 (7th)
2023 (1st)
2024 (2nd)

So, the Saints traded away seven (!) picks for three players. Any way you spin this, it is expensive. If Olave and Penning are perennial All-Pros it will be a great trade. If these guys are just OK or, worse yet, wash out or get injured, then these are very bad trades. Seems way too aggressive to me.

Saints have had on the best scouting departments in the league. Use them to find value and system fits in the draft to give the team an infusion of cheap talent. Instead, they were impatient as typical.

All they have left is a 2nd, 5th and 6th rounder. I guess they figure they'll hit the lottery on undrafted free agents.

Let’s hope so.

After the trade with the Eagles most Saints fans wanted OT and WR with their two first round picks before the draft. The Saints drafting an Ohio State Buckeye might be the most predictable thing based on their affinity for the program. With Wilson gone the pick before Olave was likely their first or second wide receiver on their board. The trade up was necessary. The Saints did their homework. Wide receivers so far ( currently pick 25) went at 8 London, 10 Wilson, 11 Olave, 12 Williams, 16 Dotson, 18 Burks... big trades at WR this offseason for $100 million contracts Hill, Adams, now AJ Brown, and Samuel is asking for a new deal, and new deals for Diggs and Cooper. Michael Thomas now ranks 12th in Average per year. Getting a top wide receiver was this teams top need and makes more money ball sense than ever. The question on the trade is how much better is Olave than Dotson or Burks. I will happily trust the front office on this one. Olave was a team captain on a loaded team. He is the best route runner in the draft and super productive. There is an argument to be made for Jameison Williams but the front office obviously had Olave higher on their board. Olave to me sounds like a ready made pro with a strong work ethic who complements Michael Thomas with deep speed and great separation.

We didn’t have to trade anything for Penning.
