Saints expected to be very interested in former Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy [ Rapoport: Interview to be early next week] (149 Viewers)

Carrs going to stay anyway. And McCarthy will certainly get weapons for him.
Our next coach will stick with Carr or another proven qb, they won’t risk their career on a young unproven player. I could see a new coach bringing in some young qbs to develop for the future.

Next coach is getting 3-4 years minimum. Chances are, if you bring in a McCarthy, he's gonna have a lot of say with the roster and draft+future FA signings. If you hire one of those other guys who are 1st time head coaches, maybe not so much. Payton only got that kinda cachet because he got to the NFC title game in year 1.

Yeah he threw Kellen Moore under the bus and then parted ways with him.

According to Aikman, Moore was forced on McCarthy by the Jones family when he was named head coach.

Aikman said he expected McCarthy back so the news was a surprise to him. He’s critical of the organization and said head coaches want to be able to do the job “on their terms” and “that’s hard to do”. He cited Dan Campbell as an example in saying he doesn’t know that a lot of coaches would be as successful working for the Cowboys, and he doesn’t necessarily think the Dallas job is a coveted one like some others do.

Fun fact - Mike McCarthy has had only five losing seasons in his 18 year head coaching career…

2008: GB 6-10
2017: GB 7-9
2018: GB 4-7-1 (fired)
2020: DAL 6-10
2024: DAL 7-10

In 2017, his starting QB Aaron Rodgers missed significant time due to injury, playing in only 7 games.

In each of this two losing seasons in Dallas, 2020 and 2024, his starting QB Dak Prescott missed significant time, playing in only 5 games in ‘20 and 8 games in ‘24.

So, 18 seasons, 5 losing seasons, 3 of which involved him not having his starting QB for more than half of the season.

This guy is a flat-out winner, knows how to build a program, and I want him to be our head coach.

Agreed. This guy survived 5 years as HC of the Cowboys and will be a HC again, not many former Cowboy HCs can say that. He will appreciate a GM who will allow him to make personnel decisions and an Owner to doesn't meddle while being well liked. I never really considered him an option as he's not the problem in Dallas. He is an option now and he's the best option available and it's not even close.

Of all the candidates out there, McCarthy has the track record to support the highest level of confidence he can get the team headed back in the right direction. Other hires might invite more excitement - I’m as intrigued by those possibilities as anybody - but McCarthy has proven he knows how to win.

Not seeing that sorry, as recently as 2023 they were first in points scored in the NFL
I watched every Dallas in 2023 and I can assure you that number is deceiving. They couldn’t run the ball and their defense and kicking gsme scored a lot of those points. The offense was definitely great against bad teams

scoring 30+ points 11 times in a season isn't easy, even against sub .500 teams. Rushing yards, they were middle of the pack. not great, but not terrible.
like its been said many times here, Dallas lack of success is mainly on Jones shoulders. its been proven time and time again with every Coach since Jimmy Johnson.

For all the fans who don't want to hire Mike McCarthy...
I have 2 words " Andy Reid."
When Andy Reid left PHI most fans thought he was finished...the game had moved on from his play calling...
He started out with Alex Smith & Chase Daniel then in 2017 he hit his life lottery.
He drafted Patrick Mohomes!!! Now he is considered one of the all-time greats...

Most of a NFL season is defined by how well you do against bad to average teams, consistently winning most of those games, while roughly splitting the games against the good teams, often times in games involving elements of luck and/or winning in unorthodox ways where you had to adjust to what your very good opponent is doing to stop you.

I wish our offense was always great against bad to average teams in recent years.

They’d also parted ways with Elliott. Pollard continued on his success from the previous season but nobody else really stepped up.

Good coach. Not a fan. If it were a choice between him and Gruden, I would go with Gruden. I love Gruden's passion and positivity for the game. McCarthy just seems perceptually grumpy and negative.

You would pass on the more successful coach because he comes across to you as grumpy?
