Saints expected to be very interested in former Packers/Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy [Rapoport: Interview to be early next week] (113 Viewers)

I lean to McCarthy from
The other candidates for one big reason, I think this team needs a Sean Payton type to steer them in the right direction. That’s essentially what McCarthy is, Payton light or Payton Heavy. The other candidate that may have that “demeanor” to me would be Glenn. I just prefer an offensive guy over a defensive guy. Ill
Also say this, anyone is better than DA (well I think he was the 4th lowest in win percentage so maybe not anyone but damn close to it).

The team made a decision to hire Allen and then reiterated their confidence. I’m not sure of the timing of the comment, but Allen did have the team on an upward trajectory from season 1 to season 2, even though they failed to meet expectations. I can understand why they felt like this could trend in the direction we were all hoping for. Then the team looked like world beaters through the first two weeks of this season and I think pretty much everybody was hoping we were really turning a corner. Alas.

It didn’t work out and that’s disappointing. There is plenty to criticize and second guess without twisting throw-away lines, IMO.
Was it an upward trajectory? Bc SP was 9-8 his last season. DA went 7-10 his 1st. That’s going backwards. 2nd season, he was 9-8, while beating 4 terrible teams in the last 5 games. That’s fool’s gold. There really was nothing upward about it.

And every one of those players have been injured for varying lengths of time. Go look at the list of injured players for any of the playoff games and you'll see at least one of them unable to suit up for the game.

And Dak has been terrible in high pressure games. He chokes more often than not.

It’s funny how in certain instances, when it fits the narrative, lack of playoff success is on the QB but in others it’s on the HC, isn’t it?

I mean, the point is based on the understanding that they brought Allen back for year two and there was improvement from year one. Few coaches get fired under those circumstances within the first three seasons.

Loomis didn’t say that Allen was “the next Chuck Noll”.

The Saints have moved on. Let’s hope success returns for our team.

In what way is Chicago a better choice for coaching prospects than New Orleans. (Other than NOLA being the equivalent of a third world country)

If he didn’t like how it ended in Green Bay, he gets to play them twice a year.

Go look and see what the Raiders players were saying about Antonio Pierce last season. Players opinions do not equal facts. Maxx Crosby wanted to be traded if they didn't pick Pierce as the head coach and look what happened.
Of course player opinions aren't facts, but there is more than one person suggesting that McCarthy isn't liked by his players and was run out of GB following a player mutiny. This certainly pushes back against that narrative. We have all known for years that Rodgers was behind that situation, which isn't surprising given what an arrogant prick that dude has always been. He crapped the bed in big playoff games under McCarthy, and did the same thing under LeFleur. He needed someone to throw under the bus for his own failures, but when the cycle repeated with another HC, he decided to leave town himself.

A young QB to build around, $66 million+ in cap room and high draft pick (same as Saints).

Mostly Caleb Williams and they have added some young talent because they have a lot of draft picks from the guys they traded away. Plus, yes, Chicago is a nice city.

On the flip side, Williams is kind of a strange guy and Chicago is where football coaches go to fail. In fact I thought it was funny that Chicago fans thought it was impressive that they flew McCarty in on a private jet since they normally bring head coach candidates in with coach tickets on regular commercial flights.
