Saints film room: How Derek Carr, offense wilted over and over again in Falcons territory (1 Viewer)

The Saints still have a lot of the same issues on offense that existed earlier in the season.

The good news is that on Sunday, quarterback Derek Carr finally got on the same page with Chris Olave, and the second-year receiver looked like the superstar he should be during the first half before leaving the game with a concussion. The bad news is that the red-zone offense still stinks, Carr still has issues handling pressure, and his passes over the middle of the field remain inconsistent.

Given that the team lost and the offense missed multiple opportunities during Sunday’s 24-15 loss to the Falcons, this week’s film study is going to focus on the ineffective moments in the passing offense and why they occurred. Given that we're breaking down a Week 12 game, it’s starting to look like these things might never get cleaned up.

Carr once again had a rough time dealing with pressure, even though the offensive line did a solid job, allowing only nine pressures. On those plays, Carr completed four passes for 19 yards. Overall, Carr has connected on 48.2% of his passes under pressure this year.

Last year, Andy Dalton was at 45%, while Jameis Winston was at 37% in 2021. So, Carr isn’t doing anything drastically different in these moments relative to the other QBs who recently held this job, but he also isn’t greatly exceeding the standard set by players who are now backups. ...
