He was our defensive backs coach for the Super Bowl run. Tracy Porter, Malcolm Jenkins and Jabari Greer's coach. DBs coach was always the best place for him and what he is best at. Even this season.
That's why only the DBs would show development. He's a good DC, but I wouldn't put him in the Buddy Ryan or Grew Williams category.

He's a good defensive coach. He's better than you think he is because he had a good defense despite the fact that for most of his career they only had one very good pass rusher on the team (Cam Jordan) and for the last 3 or 4 years they have maybe had one good pass rusher (Granderson). He did a pretty good job on defense considering the complete lack of pass rush. It's nearly impossible to play good defense in the NFL without pass rushers but the Saints did.

It's also why his defenses struggled at the end of games. They didn't have an elite pass rusher to take over or shut down drives. QBs had all day to just drive down the field and wait for a defensive PI.
I never said he was bad by any means. He was a solid DC. However, the numbers are what they are.

The 2000 Ravens are known for not having any prominent pass rushers yet they are one of the greatest units ever known for coverage and tackling.

The "No Name Defense" of the Miami Dolphins (1972), the "Doomsday Defense" of the Dallas Cowboys (1960s-1980s), and the "Purple People Eaters" of the Minnesota Vikings (1960s-1970s), who excelled at stopping the run and creating turnovers but often lacked a dominant pass rusher.

There are plenty of very good to elite defenses in history with only one true very good to dominant pass rushers.

He was a solid DC that was overrated by our fan base in some regards. He is an exceptional secondary coach.

I hope this just isn't "ripping the Band-Aid off" to prevent greater scrutiny of the entire organization. It would have taken a miracle for the Saints to finish this season much better than 6-11, which still would have led to DA having to go at the end of the year. This way, the team proves that they have now "done something" to fix things, and a mid-season firing puts the focus on DA as having being the root cause of the problem. Of course, I wouldn't have expected a midseason firing of Loomis or others, but if this is the only change before next year, I wouldn't be too optimistic. The one hope would be if they luck into hiring another dynamic, up-and-coming coach with a take-charge personality wanting to prove himself, and willing to aggressively insert himself into all aspects of running the team. If Loomis is allowed to stay and just hire another cog to fit into what they perceive to be a successful system, it is likely we will end up with mediocrity, at best. DA was a problem, but he was far from being the only problem.
I personally think this is an audition for Rizzi. In the same manner that they thrusted Rattler out there. Just trying to win games at all costs. Rizzi reinvigorating our Saints gives them the best chance to beat ATL. (as compared to a down trodden DA) An empty dome vs ATL would be devastating to the Saints' FO. I'm not saying i agree, im just saying this is what they are doing. They will not go into "tank" mode.

Id still let him be our DC again just get a firey young HC
I would rather not. It’s time to wipe the slate clean. This has been a long time coming. The Saints organization should have cleaned house when Payton left. That’s how you do it. Bring in a new HC, let him pick his entire staff.

That’s what will happen now. It’s overdue. Honestly, if the new HC next year wanted to keep some staff, I wouldn’t hire him.
