Saints haven't drafted a QB in the first round in the last 50 years (4 Viewers)

This ain't the year.

I bet the Cleveland Browns wish they could go back and have all those picks back from when they drafted QBs in the first round just for the sake of drafting QB. Imagine how quickly they could have turned the franchise around if they didn't fall for the "you gotta keep drafting QBs high until you hit on one nonsense." Gotta think the Belichick started that rumor on purpose to curse the franchise.

I’d be curious to see the Venn diagram overlap of posters who want to tank for draft pick/ posters who want to draft QB/ and posters who gamble

It would be the most Saints thing ever to finally break that streak in one of the weakest QB classes in recent memory. I'm sure a few of these guys will have fine careers but on paper it isn't pretty.

So here's to extending that streak to 51. Let's keep stockpiling talent, get the cap sorted, and have everything in place for the next guy. A few more lean years isn't going to hurt anything. I lived through the Ditka years so I can handle anything.

i think Mike D has said most likely it will be oline again,
Yeah that’d be stupid. This offense is complete trash without a WR upgrade. I feel much more confident we can patch the holes on the OL. This draft is much stronger at WR than OL…and we’d be absolutely foolish to get another Ruiz when a difference maker is there for us.

Two things happen with this team after this year IMHO.

1. Aaron Rodgers comes plays his last couple years here and they shoot for a Superbowl. Book is allowed to learn behind Rodgers and in a couple years Books either progresses or we draft a QB once Rodgers is done.
2. We make a blockbuster trade for Russell Wilson and he is here for the next 6-8 years until he retires. Book develops as a backup.

I just don't see Payton taking the time to groom a 1st year QB as a starter. He wants to win now and that just doesn't translate.

I'll be pretty livid if we take a QB. That means you burned a pick on Ian Book for no reason. Should see what the kid can do before you go burning another pick on a QB, especially in this weak class. If Book isn't in your future plans in the next few years, you go get a rental in the offseason if Winston isn't your guy to begin with.
Cards did it with Rosen and Murry. A big fallacy in poker is chasing a hand just bc you've already sunk money into the pot. Assess every action in terms of is this currently the best move for the franchise and move forward from there.

I’ve already braced myself for Oline - I think that’s the most bankable value
So far it seems like Ruiz is our only big miss drafting Oline (I’d entertain arguments for Peat as well, but it’s a much more nuanced discussion)
My hesitation with WR is that SP is still figuring out offense identity- drafting WR at mid round 1 seems to put cart before horse (esp w MT returning please please)
