Saints haven't drafted a QB in the first round in the last 50 years (1 Viewer)

And he'd be graded as a second-rounder in this year's draft. That's how bad this QB class is.
The grade isn’t influenced by the the strength of the draft class. He’s a mid round QB…because he doesn’t have the tools to be drafted in the top two rounds. Doesn’t mean that he can succeed but I wouldn’t draft him before the 4th round in any draft.

When's the last time any Saints QB who was actually drafted by the Saints started a game?

I’ve already braced myself for Oline - I think that’s the most bankable value
So far it seems like Ruiz is our only big miss drafting Oline (I’d entertain arguments for Peat as well, but it’s a much more nuanced discussion)
My hesitation with WR is that SP is still figuring out offense identity- drafting WR at mid round 1 seems to put cart before horse (esp w MT returning please please)
I’m fully expecting a very disappointing draft pick. We haven’t been good at drafting in the first round…we got Lattimore and Ramczyk. What else have we done this decade in the first round?

I don’t think that WR is just the Saints biggest need. I think it’s the Saints biggest two needs. There is no offensive scheme in the league that is successful with this WR Corp. And the need is going to meet value…as there at at least 3 blue chip receivers…and at least 6 with first round grades. I honestly think you draft a WR in the first and second round. The thought of passing up a top WR for another OL is disheartening to say the least. The Saints QB can have all day to throw…there is no separation. They could have a year to throw and I doubt it’d make a big difference. You have to have receivers that separate…and do it immediately. No amount of OL help is going to change that.

Yeah that’d be stupid. This offense is complete trash without a WR upgrade. I feel much more confident we can patch the holes on the OL. This draft is much stronger at WR than OL…and we’d be absolutely foolish to get another Ruiz when a difference maker is there for us.
Another Ruiz? Since when is his story complete and we know he can't improve with further development? I'm not saying we need to go OL either, but if Evan Neal slips to us, take him.

Uh, Brandin Cooks, Cam Jordan, Mark Ingram, and Marcus Davenport aren't worth mentioning?

Talking about taking Oline.

I said it back in April that the ironic thing about picking Ruiz and McCoy the last two years is that Creed Humphrey this year was better than both at Center and sure enough he is the top rated rookie in the entire class and has achieved all-pro consideration.

They took two average centers over super-talented wrs and once a superb center comes along they passed on him for another DE with a history of injuries. Lol.

It's funny because the IOWA center might be just as good in the 2022 draft.

Evan Neal is a top 5 pick. If anyone that caliber falls…sure. But that’s not what we’re looking at. We aren’t looking at Aidan Hutchinson or Kyle Hamilton either…though I’d take them in spite of team needs too. But there is no OL I’m taking over a plethora of WRs in the first round.

Man…how long ago was Cooks, Ingram, and Jordan? We might as well be talking about Ricky Jackson. Davenport has been an enormous bust. Playing well 3 games per season is a bust…especially considering he cost more than one 1st.

Your forecast is kinda depressing because deep in our hearts we know it is true. If there is a bluechip WR, he'll probably be picked right before us and we'll pick another lineman.

TE Trey McBride is probably better than all the top wrs in this class anyway and should be available near where the saints pick.

McBride is clearly better than every wr not named Treylon Burks and he might be better than him.

I'd hate to see them reach for need by passing on McBride for someone other than Burks.

In the last decade. Not coincidentally, an answer to the very question you posed.

I know it can be inconvenient when people bring facts to the party.
