Saints Injury Report 12/17 (Dave Thomas and Roby are out - merged) (2 Viewers)

Humphrey is a decent back-up caliber TE. He's remained on the squad since just prior to the playoffs last year.

I'm more concerned about Shockey in the long-term. He can't seem to stay healthy, and he's definitely lost a step or two. Nonetheless, he's still a quality TE ... but time is catching up with him. Graham is obviously whom the coaches consider the future starter at TE.

I think you hit it here.... Shockey isn't explosive anymore but he's still a huge and athletic tight end and can make some plays like a possession receiver can. He just won't have a game plan designed specifically for him but he can get a couple of 1st downs and keep the chains moving...

The Atlanta game won't mean much if we lose to the Ravens

This is possibly incorrect. The Ravens game will actually not mean that much if Atlanta loses to the Seahawks. If Atlanta loses to the Seahawks, then we win the division with wins in our last 2 games, but the Ravens game will have absolutely no significance.
If Atlanta beats the Seahawks, then we cannot catch the Falcons even if we beat the Ravens.

It might not seem like it, but Dave Thomas plays a significant role for our offense. He knows what we do very well... motions, audibles, etc. We will succeed without him, but his impact is very underrated.

We don't need Ivory to beat the Ravens.

Pierre Thomas was averaging 5 a carry over three seasons and making key plays in the Superbowl not too long ago. I think a lot of people are forgetting that and writing him off for some reason.

He's probably still the better back right now.

How do you figure this?

This is not true.

We have to beat the ravens to win homefield. The only way we win the tiebreaker with atlanta is at 13-3. We can't do it at 12-4.

The Ravens are a common opponent between us and atlanta. If we lose to the Ravens and win the last two, and atlanta loses to Seattle, us, and beats Carolina, then both us and atlanta finish 12-4, tied with head to head records against each other, tied with division records, and with them having a one game edge on us in common opponents.

Repeating, the tie breakers are as follows:

1. Head-to-head (best won-lost-tied percentage in games between the clubs).
2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the division.
3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games.
4. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.

You can see that conference record falls below common games. So we have to beat the Ravens, and Seattle (or carolina) has to beat atlanta.

Capiche?

If Atlanta beats the Seahawks, then loses to us, then Atlanta will win the tiebreaker with us providing Atlanta beats the Panthers in their last game (the Panthers have no chance in that game).

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Don't get too fired up Donte, you might pull your hamstring

:hihi:[/QUOTE]
The last time he was all fired up for the Saints, he got to watch the game from the sideline as the Saints blasted his Eagles. I think he was injured at the time, a recurring theme in his NFL career.

Uhhh, I think he torched Fred Thomas for a LONG TD actually...

If Hargrove can't play, IMO, that's the bigger loss. He's a monster on kickoff coverage and gives us good flexibility and depth on the DL. In a cold game where players may be struggling to catch their breathe, that could be big if he's out.

This!

I haven't seen it discussed much, but have you ever seen a defensive lineman around the ball so much on kick coverage? Dude is insane! (Uhh... I meant that in a figurative way).

And as far as the D-line, with Hargrove listed as questionable I'm surprised no one has asked... JUNEYAH?

(Edit: Just saw the video mailbag thread, so I guess someone is asking.)

Let me explain myself. We are going to play Baltimore more through the air then the run game. I am not saying only passing and no run game just more passing. As far as Atlanta goes we will play a mix of both ground attack and passing. I can see your point that yes all the games are very important.
