Saints planned to interview Mike McCarthy; McCarthy didn’t garner enough interest from Saints and will take a year off (6 Viewers)

Noooooooooooo ….

I watched him here in Dallas for 5 years. He isn’t the worst, and he was strapped by Jerry Jones, but still, it would be quite boring to watch his gamelan again. Especially since we already watched his game run its course as OC here already.

That would be like a giants or cowboys fan saying they wouldn’t want Payton. A lot can change in 20+ years. If he wins us 12 games a year that’ll be pretty exciting.

Every team in the NFL is 2-3 years from being competitive. But, what makes you think that a young coach that has never built a roster has a better chance of getting that right than an experienced coach that has done the job with a high level of success for many years?
It's the unknown that is more exciting. We know what Mike Mccarthy is. He's won 1 playoff game since 2017 and has had plenty of talented teams over that period that should have won more.

And also if we get a veteran head coach, Mickey is more likely to think he can win immediately and continue down this financial mess road that he has been taking this franchise.

McCarthy’s perceived ceiling is what we’re hoping a young first-time coach can become. In his case, knowing his ceiling isn’t a bad thing. We know that there’s a chance he can advance multiple rounds in the playoffs, and contend for a SB with the right luck in health and good QB play. He has the overall and recent resume that validates that sentiment. He’s a contending coach that any team would want to have when there’s an opening.

On the other hand, gambling on an unknown to become a playoff contending coach doesn’t sound like a better option than a coach who’s proven to already be that. For the Saints who are trying to return to double digit winning seasons again. It may be a process of 2-3 seasons to get to that point with a coach who’s figuring out how to be a successful HC for the first time.

I think this can be a case of talking ourselves out of a blatantly good coach because of opinions of Loomis. Since McCarthy previously worked with Loomis, he must be bad or somehow a replicate of Allen by default. But McCarthy established himself as one of the NFL’s top HCs across 2 decades since leaving the Saints in ‘05.
How do we know he can contend for a super bowl? He hasn't done that in 15 years and that was with a prime aaron rodgers

No it's not silly because Reid before Mahomes is almost EXACTLY the same as McCarthy except Reid did not win a SB. It's a clear cutoff point. Before Mahomes /after Mahomes. Before Mahomes Reid had won only 1 playoff game in 5 yrs even worse than McCarthy. If Reid had been fired in 2016 would people have said he's a retread and can't win in the playoffs like they are saying about McCarthy? How about Tomlin?? he has not won a playoff game in the last 5 or 6 tries but people would take him in a sec.
Right but we do not have a mahomes in the building. So it's not like Mccarthy coming here he would get a patrick mahomes along with him.

While ML was GM when Haslett was fired he had nothing to do with or was "In the room" when Haslet was hired . He was an administrator not football opps
Nothing I've said has anything to do with whether or not Loomis had anything to do with hiring Haslett. Don't know why you don't understand that.

What I said is that Loomis has been with the Saints since Haslett, so he's seen from inside the organization how the Saints have done with defensive head coaches versus an offensive head coach.

If you are not the top choice for your top candidates and you need to save face.

I have zero clue what you are trying to say here.
