Saints planned to interview Mike McCarthy; McCarthy didn’t garner enough interest from Saints and will take a year off (3 Viewers)

McCarthy Fired Kellen Moore. The Offense got better. This coaching search has been a dumpster fire!
Actually, that's false. In 21 Moore was OC and the O was #1 scoring 530 pts . MM took over playcalling in 23 and the O was also #1 scoring 509 pts. so they didn't get better just got back to #1 but scored 21pts less

Welcome, Coach Moore (hopefully)! This process has been a shambles but if it ends with a young offensive mind who is a competent play caller, that’s something I think the fanbase can get behind.
I'll just say, at this juncture Kellen Moore is a inexperienced coach as far as head coaching is concerned. Two things: I was always shocked and amused he ever got the opportunity with Dallas with zero experience. So, I figured he was a Jerry Jones appointee and heir apparent in Dallas but they didn't consider him? I'm not convinced he can lead a team, but I'm loyal enough to pray he can.

I suspected something was up when I saw a thread N.O expected to do another interview on 29th of January

One, it sends the message that he is not the first choice. Second, the interest was not very strong on the Saints part.

Are we? We’ve been persuing Moore for a few weeks, now. Maybe he was our first option all along? We may never actually know. I just hope it’s the “right” option.
I think he is. It sure is alot more promising option that we were given in 22-24 at HC

And I didn't think my comment was serious enough to get this response, but alas, here we are. Got a Snickers?

Man all I said was that I think these particular coaches, three names that aren’t really hot on the hiring circuit, would REALLY like the job even if it’s low odds and take their chances, so they’re not likely to withdraw (and as of this moment, unlike everyone else, they haven’t yet).

How on Earth is this a point of contention for someone?

We all will get what we wish for in time with this Moore hiring. I sure hope I’m wrong but I do t think so.
I would’ve gone Kaf>Moore but hey, Moore would have been 3rd after McCarthy.

I like them all but I’m not sure what to expect from Moore as a HC. I went back and looked at some old SP interviews from 2006 and though young he had a demeanor about him.

I’m not seeing that w/ more on the surface at least. Perhaps there’s more than meets the eye to him and I’m willing to give him that chance.

Part of me would be Ok if he pulled out lol but still I like him as an option and I completely understand why Loomis was interested, on the flip side it was the same thing that lead him to Allen.

Hopefully this time it’s a hit

Whoever we hire I hope fans understand we're gonna probably suck this upcoming season. I'm not expecting contention at least until the 2026 season even in this terrible division. We have some old guys and salary on the roster that needs to be purged.

I’ll bet Loomis was being cheap with Gale Benson’s money when it came to hiring McCarthy. He also probably has some coaches that he is loyal to and thinks he can get Moore to retain,
I posted an article from gridiron saying McCarthy wanted his own coaches and Loomis wants to retain some of the current coaches. So his statement that the Head Coach would decide his staff is a LIE.

Gridiron knows better than Loomis himself? Lol

What if he’s simply referring to “Saints-lifer” type coaches like Brian Young or Jahri Evans? Or maybe just the OL coach?

I think too big a deal is being made of this.

Many years ago SP interviewed for the Raiders job but turned it down because of the disarray within the organization. A new HC taking an NFL job just to get into the system doesn't always pan out. They can quickly get eaten up and may never get the chance to have a HC position again. They could also get the dreaded job title of a retread. This could have been the hesitation from Brady, Glenn and Johnson. Our organization has some red flags in the front office so if I was Moore, I would do some serious soul searching and decide if New Orleans is the right fit. If Moore does take it, he can't start until Feb 10th or later. Is time running out for the Saints?

Ahhh yes the amazing insider fan blog site known as Gridiron is totally way more reliable than Underhill and Loomis himself

Was all of the smoke about Mike McCarthy came exclusively from Mike McCarthy's camp or something? The Saints never even had any kind of interview at all with him. It's all very strange.

But if he truly did pull out of the running himself, then Moore better be the guy they hire. They can't have him decline the job as well. That would be ALL of the real candidates declining and only leave the Rooney Rule guys and Rizzi.
