Saints release WR Bryan Edwards (1 Viewer)

Are we cutting down already? Or are they about to bring someone in?

My guess is we're doing him a favor by giving him a chance to catch on another team before the end of the preseason. We did the same with James Washington when it was clear he wasn't going to make the team and didn't bring any other receiver to replace him.

The ideal scenario is keeping Kirkwood who makes TQS expendable since he can do a lot of what TQS can do. That allows the team to keep another young promising WR on the 53.
But with MT as a wildcard and the amount of youth in the room already, I have to imagine they want another vet for insurance this year.

I'm bringing in someone, maybe not a WR, just so I can get a look at them.

Add Kirkwood to that list….Shaq will go to the PS if we carry 5 on game day.

I like Kirkwood, but he has been more injured than TQS and TQS has put up better numbers. He's been in the league, what? 5 years and still hasn't done much? If we're going with an unknown, I'd rather go with Shaq and not risk looking Shaq to the Falcons or another team in the NFCS. Kirkwood likely makes it to the practice squad. I don't know that Shaq will.

At this point I have Davis over Kirkwood because he's simply done more. I know Carr has said nice things about Kirkwood and he's reportedly had a solid camp, but Perry and Davis are lighting it up in preseason while Kirkwood has one catch for four yards (touchdown). Kirkwood's lone catch also came on a play where Michael Thomas drew triple coverage by the Chiefs leaving Kirkwood wide open. He didn't beat his man with an excellent route. He didn't make an excellent catch in traffic. He didn't show elite body control. He caught a layup on a busted coverage.

Also Kirkwood does not have the body of work to where he can approach preseason games as a glorified 11 on 11 drill. Kirkwood having a strong preseason performance is just as important to him as it is for Perry and Davis and all the other bubble players.

Are people confusing Kirkwood for Kirklin cause outside of Davis in this last preseason game I thought it was Kirklin that was getting the other catches and had a rush attempt??

The Saints did Edwards a HUGE favor by giving him a chance to get in camp with another team before pre-season is over. He was not going to make the 53 man roster and wasn't even on the bubble.

The next axe to fall might be TQS after this weekend. The interesting part of this, can Loomis squeeze a late round draft pick out of somebody for TQS? Another WR needy team might want to cough up a conditional pick because Denver sits at #5 on the waiver wire order. If another team is interested in TQS, the Saints have leverage on Denver. I could see the Saints shipping off TQS and a kicker to Denver, so two players, for a 5th round pick in 2024.

Olave
CGM
Shaheed
Perry
Davis
Kirkwood (Swing guy, active roster, PS, not active roster, etc, depending on injuries)
(Plus Baker to practice squad.)

TQS makes the roster if they don't think they have enough behind the top 3 guys. I honestly think it might be time to part ways with TQS.

Good. I was a little concerned about Carr possibly getting him a roster spot like Drew did for that one receiver who never did anything.
