Saints release WR Bryan Edwards (3 Viewers)

My guess is we're doing him a favor by giving him a chance to catch on another team before the end of the preseason. We did the same with James Washington when it was clear he wasn't going to make the team and didn't bring any other receiver to replace him.
Exactly. This is what good front offices and coaching staffs do with vets. When it's obvious that the player isn't going to make the team they let them go to give them the opportunity to make it with some other team. It helps the player and it helps the team. Any rep that was going to Bryan Edwards can now go to someone else.

I just think its weird because he's like the 4th string receiver who plays like a 4th string receiver. He's better then the other WR people are naming. How is Kirkwood remotely better then TQS they legit was on the same team and started the same year. The Bias is so obvious not based on production
The fact that Kirkwood is high on the depth chart and plays with the starters says a lot. He also did not suit up for the Chargers game. That's telling.

6 rec for 48 yards, 0 TD (Keith Kirkwood's last FOUR regular seasons in the NFL)
6 rec for 70 yards, 1 TD (AT Perry preseason Game 1)
3 rec for 63 yards, 0 TD (Shaq Davis preseason Game 2... he also had a TD called back on a Bryan Edwards penalty)
19 rec for 278 yards, 1 TD (TQS's 2022 stats... lowest totals of his career)

TQS and Kirkwood have both been in the league since 2018. TQS is a year younger.

In fairness to Keith Kirkwood, he did catch a 4 yard TD in Game 1.
He was given Game 2 off (or at least it appeared so since he had no catches nor can I remember seeing him targeted). Something could be read into that.

My frustration with TQS is when we needed him to step up, he didn’t. We can’t have a guy who has been in our system for so long, not seize the moment. There’s no excuse for that. I’ve seen WRs, on other teams, get promoted to active day rosters and ball out better than he has. That should never happen with a guy who supposedly “can play every WR position”. I don’t want to see a guy make a decent catch once every 6-7 games. He’s too experienced for that nonsense.

1. OK I guess 1.5 catches a game is cool i guess, but im not sure where you got those stats. https://www.nfl.com/players/keith-kirkwood/stats/career
2. Preseason
3. Preseason
4. He's 4th receiver. He is never going live up to that draft status but those rookies need to beat out TQS in the REGULAR season so he can get moved next year.

I can understand this POV, but the reality is Kirkwood has a much higher ceiling than TQS, he has just been injured most of his career. So the question becomes do we take a chance on an oft injured average WR, or do we take a chance on an almost always injured WR with a bit more potential......There are so many good young WRs on our roster right now, the point may be moot.....

I can agree has a let down for sure, i can see this point of view. I just dont want to get on this hype train and get another Brandon Coleman, Coby Fleener etc. Thinking these potential receivers going pan out only to have Olave goes out or MT go down again. Then those true colors start showing up where the realization this aint preseason or college. It hit alot different when Jalen Ramsey, Sauce or Diggs on the otherside then 4th string undrafted rookie. Jaylon Smith looked like patrick willis playing that second team

That depth chart is not really accurate going into week 3 of preseason. It's based on the first official release which was weeks ago.

No one really believes that Baker is ahead of both Perry and Davis at this point.

Krull is well ahead of James. And Adebo is pretty much ahead of Taylor based on Practices and games depth chart.

Jackson ahead of Jaylon Smith who played with the starters is another head scratcher.

So yes, Kirkwood has been running with the starters since TQS got injured and I believe he has ran away with the #4 spot.

OK

I believe you misread #1.
Those are not Kirkwood’s stats in his last 4 regular season games.
Those are his stats in his last 4 regular SEASONS combined.

I was trying to reinforce your point that KK has not done much in his career and that TQS has been vastly more productive. That the worst season of TQS career is considerably more productive than KK’s last 4 years combined.

I threw the rookies in there to show that each of them has amassed more receiving yards in just one preseason game this year than KK has in the past 4 seasons combined.

Sorry bout that. Gotcha

Brandon Coleman outperformed his UDFA status. TQS was a 3rd rd pick. Not saying that he should be a good WR, but just show us something consistent. That’s not too much to ask for.

Who do you think is more frustrated about the way his career has gone - you or him?

He's had terrible luck with injuries and that's enough reason for the Saints to find his replacement; he can't be counted on to stay healthy and contribute. He's got a solid skillset, and has had his positive moments, so it's unfortunate it hasn't worked out for him.

Think I’m the one more frustrated bc he still makes a good living just blocking apparently, with somewhat job security (in a sense). He’s winning regardless. Honestly, that was one helluva question. Mad props to you for that one!
