Something tells me despite peoples indifference for TQS he will be on this roster come opening day.
As long as he is injured the Saints can't trade him and he has been out since 8/6. The best the Saints can do under those conditions is to reach an injury settlement and then release him. Even if he got "healthy", there's no value out there for him.The interesting part of this, can Loomis squeeze a late round draft pick out of somebody for TQS?
This is the indifference I speak about, I'm not for or against TQS making this roster but people really think being injured will prevent you from making the team but we all know Andrus Peat is making the team and Ruiz is making the team, Thomas has been injured the past 2-3 seasons never was there a doubt he wouldn't be on the roster.TQS hasn't practiced since August 6th. If he isn't back soon, I'm not sure he even makes the final 53 just from the health perspective. Also last season's free agency test for TQS showed he really did not have a market outside of a very complacent 2022 New Orleans staff. This year the staff sure has given the vibe of "our jobs are on the line so we better get this right" and using a roster spot on an injured blocking exclusive "Wide Receiver" while Running Back value is at a historic low would be... interesting.
Coincidentally, his name was Carr too, Austin Carr.
The difference between MT, Peat, Ruiz and TQS is the other 3 injured players are all starters or significant contributors. They’re necessities and either the best or top 2 best options at their positions. TQS is a reserve/role player who can be replaced by younger talent with higher ceilings. His roster spot is 50/50, there’s a good chance he stays. But being out this long all of preseason for almost 3 weeks hasn’t benefited him in snaps or a roster spot while we were able to get longer looks at Perry and Davis. This is the indifference I speak about, I'm not for or against TQS making this roster but people really think being injured will prevent you from making the team but we all know Andrus Peat is making the team and Ruiz is making the team, Thomas has been injured the past 2-3 seasons never was there a doubt he wouldn't be on the roster.
TQS is a competent player and that is his value even as the #4 guy he can take reps from starters like Thomas and Olave and Shaheed is an unproven as Perry in terms of experience so you want a guy with 5 years knowledge of the offense on this team while your young players Olave, Shaheed and Perry get acclimated to being a professinoal NFL wide reciever.
Good. I was a little concerned about Carr possibly getting him a roster spot like Drew did for that one receiver who never did anything.
My point was, injury has little to do with how the roster is shaped, especially when the injuries are minor and the player is just preparing for the regular season. The difference between MT, Peat, Ruiz and TQS is the other 3 injured players are all starters or significant contributors. I think the best way for the top 3 young WRs to get acclimated is through playing time. Carr targets his TEs a lot more, plus AK’s targets will return back to normal, so there’s other receiving options who’ll sometimes take the pressure away from the young wideouts on the field. MT is a vet and been in the system for a while so we not in need of vet mentoring at WR to keep two vets. That’s really what the WR coach is for to hands on teach them their responsibilities in the offense.
I’ve said that a million times. Beneficiaries of lack of competition. Some dudes are just out there getting cardio, while getting paidSo is TQS the new Shanle on the board?
Yep, that's how I think it will shake out, and that's a very talented group.Olave
CGM
Shaheed
Perry
Davis
Kirkwood (Swing guy, active roster, PS, not active roster, etc, depending on injuries)
(Plus Baker to practice squad.)
TQS makes the roster if they don't think they have enough behind the top 3 guys. I honestly think it might be time to part ways with TQS.
I just think its weird because he's like the 4th string receiver who plays like a 4th string receiver. He's better then the other WR people are naming. How is Kirkwood remotely better then TQS they legit was on the same team and started the same year. The Bias is so obvious not based on productionI’ve said that a million times.
