As with everything in life some trades work...some don't.

But for the most part I'm like you, I don't like trading away draft picks.

Kool-Aid did fine, but he was only a starter by the end of the year because they traded away Lattimore and Adebo broke his leg and was out for the rest of the season. It's not like he beat out the guys that were ahead of him.

But, sure, it wasn't a bad trade to trade up for him.

I agree. I think he did fine, but he didn't show up as a shutdown CB. Hopefully he develops and gets more consistent. He did look pretty good against Tampa, but I hope he gets better.

You don't think Loomis is competent, we get it...but man some of your arguments as to why you think he's incompetent are easier than you realize to poke holes in. You'd do better by just saying, I think another GM would do a better job.

Listen, this isn't rocket science. All you did was confirm he delegated those decisions to others. That was his choice to make as GM but he is responsible for those choices. And he isn't immune from criticism for those decisions either. You may think he shouldn't be accountable for that and that it's fine to pass the buck to Payton and DA who have since left, but I and many others don't.

He plays flat footed and sits too much. Takes too long to react and covers dead grass instead of jumping his man in zone. Hope he gets better for our sake, but the DB coach should have been all over him because those things are correctable. I hated watching him because those are things you can’t do as a DB.

What really exasperated the cap hell created by Loomis' strategy was covid and its effect on the salary cap. That created a huge mess he has chasing since then.

Why do people say COVID cap reduction is to blame?

Every team was equally affected. But only one team's fanbase still remembers the covid cap year or haha blames it as some sort of boogeyman on the grand scheme. Only one GM regularly surrenders dead cap money that would've each season paid for 5 solid depth guys or better.

All the Loomis dead caps of the recent past season cleared the cap for teams that averaged a mere 7.5 wins the past four seasons, with no playoffs. Their ceiling has been 9 wins, and they just sunk to a new low with 5 wins, their worst season since the 2005 3-13 vagabond season.

Injuries? I believe they are in part the result of the aging and overstressed roster which is the result of the dead capping.

It's all circular now. The cap is robbed once they're under it each year, the number of draft picks gets robbed, depth is robbed, the QB they brought in did not cash in with improved play, and the coach voted by the league's players as 'the worst coach in the NFL' was fired in-season.

Alot of you say the cap will be cleared in 2 years, but I think it's going to be more. The recovery from reconstructive cap surgery may be 3-4 years once all the dust settles, or worse if Loomis can't quit his addiction.

This is the key takeaway from this season. Cap flexibility limited the depth on the team, particularly at offensive line, wide receiver, and defensive line.

In a perfect world with little to no injuries, we have a pretty good team. When we have to extend aging players on large contracts to get under the cap each year, it limits what we can do with free agents if we don't kill it with draft picks.

Beyond hiring a new head coach, fixing the cap should be our top priority. "Kick the can" without a superstar franchise QB is not a path to success.

I disagree, Even if we had the cap space no team pays starter $ to backups. The depth issue is from bad drafting and bad talent evaluation. Teams don't pay starter $ to backups planning to be decimated by injury ,especially to 1 position group

How do we get under the cap without restructuring Carr? Because if we restructure him we are saying he’s our starter past the 2025 season.

Question for the math geniuses smarter than me. After all the cuts and restructures, how much money are we expecting to have under the cap to spend?

I haven’t looked at it too much, but as far as restructuring contracts, I would only do young guys who I feel confident that could help us now and in the future. Maybe some guys in the Oline, Granderson, and maybe even TH7 so he can retire with us. I would like to stay away from a restructure with DC4. I’d have to look at it soon, so I could get a better picture

I'm glad they are taking the cap hits in 2025 and 2026 to get it over with before 2027. It's another indication that they are working to get the cap clear after the 2026 season.

Exactly. I hope we absorb as much as possible the next two seasons. The win/loss results don't matter to me as much as the long goal. I'm willing to deal with a lot as long as there is a clear direction and light at the end of the tunnel. Being bad while getting the house in order is much better than being bad/mediocre while being "All In" bending over backwards with the cap and trading draft picks willy nilly.

I know a lot of people love the way Loomis wins the gold in The Offseason Olympics but I'm done with it. Some find these moves impressive, like "See! Loomis is making it happen! Told ya!". I think there is a misunderstanding. At this point nobody doubts that Loomis can make moves like this. He's been doing it for years now. The question was always should he?

I'm not a Loomis hater. I don't want him gone or anything like that. I simply want him to change course now. Because, of course. It's time.
