Saints sign a CB (street guy)... (1 Viewer)

Wasnt Dathan Brown a guy we had last preseason who was as fast as this guy and was raved by Darrell Green as being perhaps the best young corners he's seen?

If staying step for step was all it took they'd just be track stars at the position. He couldnt break the Bears lineup at corner then why would we/ I thought Payton promised this wasnt the old Saints, no matter taking other teams scraps? If he was any good at corner other teams would have been after him with his speed especially. I understand the Bears dont need him on kicks, but I guess if its to compete with Skylar next year, what can it hurt?

I thought the Bears had some pretty good corners

There was no way Fassitt could of broken the Bears lineup.

Have you seen their depth chart at CB? nearly all of those guys each one started at some point this season OR have had plenty of playing time. I know this for a fact cause I live in Wisconsin on the border with Illinois and know alot about the Bears.

Lovie Smith has a good eye for DB players, so this guy could be something. But we shouldn't hold our breath.

Exactly. CB is one of the Bears strongest positions.

Fassitt does look talented, though. It will be interesting to see how he pans out. (Along with Skyler Green and Orien Harris)

I like the pickup, he has the measurables and is a project. Won't expect anything in 08 though. It can happen. Look at an undrafted CB from the MAAC conference who played for the monster Duquesne. The guy is now pro bowl calibre at 26

Dude you're preaching to the choir... I realize the SWAC isn't blessed with the caliber of players that come from BCS conferences... especially the SEC... I'd never compare SEC (when did I say this anyway?) to any other conference because there is no comparison... but what I'm saying is... there's talent in the SWAC. Especially at skill positions.Have y'all gotten my point yet? :dunno:

I'm surprised that you're not accustomed to this yet. Any time there is a SEC fan within ear-shot of college football discussion you get this.

The funny part is... I'm an SEC homer... but I'm also a realist... and I know there are talented guys at every level. The greatest RB (Sweetness) and WR (J. Rice) came from small schools... as well as guys like Darrell Green, Doug Williams, Michael Strahan... hell Ladanian Tomlinson went to a small school.

Everybody knows the SEC is the power conference... so do we draft all players from the SEC and don't even bother with the other conferences?

Not here to pick a fight, but my SWAC alma mater (Jackson State) has produced the exact same number of NFL Hall of Famers as mighty LSU. Lem Barney, Walter Payton, and Jackie Slater went to JSU, and Jim Taylor, Y.A. Tittle, Steve Van Buren are the LSU alum. IMO, not bad for a small school.

To echo St. Droopy, talent is talent regardless of where it comes from. The difference is that a BCS school gives the player a bigger stage to showcase said talent. Many of the guys at the small schools can FLAT OUT PLAY, make no mistake about it....

The video looks good and he seems to have all the measurables, but the question is why was he on the practice squad? He can't be THAT good yet, but may have some good potential. I am still wishing we hadn't let David Jones go. I think he had potential, maybe this guy is a development guy to replace David Jones...

After watching the video,he plays the ball a lot! I'm not sure he'll be able to play that loose at this level and maybe that's what's keeping him on the practice squad. In that video, you can actually see him floating around and watching the QB's eyes for the pick, while his man is 5-10 yards away from him........with better QB play he would have gotten toasted a few times.

He has great body control and hand-eye coordination though.....keeping fingers crossed
