Saints sign RB Lynn Bowden, WR Keke Coutee, and former Bengals 1st round OL Billy Price (edit: Price cut on 7/20, Coutee cut 8/11) (4 Viewers)

Guy was a first round pick in 2018 and is now on his fifth team.

Hope he can find the right team/system fit, but things aren’t looking too good for him.
He’s busted pretty bad. He could be decent depth if he shows some potential that had him selected that high. Probably his next to last shot to sticking in the league.

None of the guys will make the roster. They have all bounced around the league with very little success.

And Billy Price was one of those awful OL at Cincy that got Burrow killed his rookie year.

These guys are likely better than the scrubs we waived to make room, but none of them are anything to write home about.

I like all 3 signings as wait and sees. Solid name guys who have all played starting snaps in the league

I don't. I wish they would have given the first year guys they brought in a chance to make it to training camp. Remember, Marques Colston looked like he would be an early cut after mini camp. Then he came back for training camp and slaughtered the depth chart on the way to becoming the #1 WR in the first game and making Stallworth trade bait. Some guys may need a couple weeks to process the pro game and let it slow down on the field. To me, we let go of some good potential in favor of guys that are known commodities. Not even good known commodities, we're talking dented cans that have rolled around the bottom shelf a few years.

Man I forgot that sequence of events happened with Colston. From 7th round pick to entrenched as our #1 WR in game one…amazing.

Also, and this is kind of random, but I don’t know why it never dawned on me either that Hofstra produced both he and Wayne Chrebet.

Two 7th round/undrafted type NFL stars at the same position from a small school, with Colston’s rookie year coming immediately after Chrebet’s final year in the league. Both great for their teams and in their respective teams’ Hall of Fames/Ring of Honors, neither of whom ever making it to a Pro Bowl, both retiring after their age 32 season.

Burrow takes a lot of sacks regardless of who’s blocking for him. Not saying Price is the truth but he was considered to be the top OC coming out of Ohio State and dominated his last year there. I’m sure he’s a serviceable backup as he’s started a good many games. He can also play OG having stated there in college.

Biggest knock I read about on Price was his short arms allowed defenders to get inside>

Olave’s was inflammation and not anything serious. I think we would’ve targeted starting caliber WRs if he and Shaheed had to recover beyond the start of TC in a month. Bowden and Coutee just swaps out with Flowers and Thompson. They’re extra depth competition.
You only saying it's not srs cause the coach says it's not....

Then we sign a wr...so yea...Olave will be day to day but I expect to see Olave in August preseason games he may miss entirely.

Gotta see how that Achilles heels...

Remember when people used to think that Mike Mayock knew how to scout players? Lynn Bowden was taken by Mayock in the 3rd round, and didn’t make it out of training camp.

What else is funny, the player taken with the pick right before and right after Bowden were none other than our very own Jabari Zuniga and Bryan Edwards with picks 79 and 81 (all of whom were taken a few picks after Zach Baun).

We will more than likely never have another Colston scenario ever again

Why not? Pierre Thomas, Colston, Ivory, Harris, Gardener Johnson, Shaheed, etc. Late round and undrafted free agents are pivotal to any team. But as late picks, You have to give these guys a chance. They're late picks for a reason. Saints have cut bait on more UDFAs earlier this year than I remember in year's past. Colston is an extreme example but totally fits. He actually felt like he may get cut after minicamp. A lesser coach may have cut him and brought in a guy whose already been on 5 teams in 4 years. I have NO FAITH that thats going to work out. None. I'd put more faith in a guy your scouting team pulled in during year 1 than some guy who's been a healthy release from an 8th of the teams in the league. Smh, you get cut from the Bengals Offensive Line, that's not a good sign. Their line was downright awful and he couldn't make that? Yeah I'd rather have any of our UDFAs back over that guy.

We signed WR's to replace the two UDFA's we cut. You're making a mountain out of a mole hill and reading too much into it.
