Saints sign RB Lynn Bowden, WR Keke Coutee, and former Bengals 1st round OL Billy Price (edit: Price cut on 7/20, Coutee cut 8/11) (3 Viewers)

Yeah, true he is no longer on the team. But that doesn't mean he can't be developed or the Saints can't develop him. What you're saying is just pure speculation. But we'll see come training camp and after, when they form the PS.

Oh, I was thinking maybe to develop his skills as a WR and RS. The 3 players they signed yesterday are probably just camp bodies that will get released anyway with the exception of maybe Koutee the WR. Why not keep your young talent and develop them. There's no evidence that the Saints didn't want him in camp just because they released him now and it doesn't mean that they will not sign him to the PS later. Sometimes another need pops up and they have to release a young player with potential to make room for a player of need. But to say the Saints didn't even want him in camp is silly, we have no actual evidence of that.
90 man roster.
12 WRs among the 90.
That's all the evidence I need to say they don't want him in camp. They have plenty of young talent to develop at WR that they like more.
AT Perry, Shaquan Davis, & Kawaan Baker are the three the Saints chose to bring to camp to fight for a roster or more likely a practice squad spot.

Huh? How the Saints going to develop him when he's not with the team?

How many players have the Saints cut during minicamp and brought back after TC? Zero. He went undrafted for a reason and if he couldn't even cut it at minicamp then that says all that needs to be said. What they are saying is logical.

Well Kawaan Baker has been here for 3 years and was a 7th round pick not a rookie free agent, which doesn't mean much, but if he hasn't developed enough to break the roster yet. Why not waive him and keep the young talent and develop them instead. Baker has been on the practice squad for 3 years. If you ain't able to make the roster after 3 years on the PS, it's time to cut bait.
Shaquan Davis will probably be on the PS and if the Saints decide to keep 6 receivers, I think A.T. Perry will get that last spot.

You didn't get the point I was making. Even though he's not with the team anymore, that doesn't mean he couldn't be developed or he couldn't cut it. I read an article on Saints Wire, they reported the Saints decided to go with the more experienced players and the numbers game with all of the WR's we have now is the reason he was waived not because he couldn't cut it. And yes the Saints have cut players before training camp and brought them back either during training camp or when they formed their PS. I gave an example of that with Andy Tanner. There are a few more.

Baker was drafted in 2021, that's only 2 years in the league.

He was suspended for 6 games in 2022. He bounced around a few teams Practice Squads in Nov/Dec, was reinstated by the NFL on December 17, 2022 before landing back with the Saints on December 27, 2022.

You're been on the practice squad for 3 years is very inaccurate.

Why not? Pierre Thomas, Colston, Ivory, Harris, Gardener Johnson, Shaheed, etc. Late round and undrafted free agents are pivotal to any team. But as late picks, You have to give these guys a chance. They're late picks for a reason. Saints have cut bait on more UDFAs earlier this year than I remember in year's past. Colston is an extreme example but totally fits. He actually felt like he may get cut after minicamp. A lesser coach may have cut him and brought in a guy whose already been on 5 teams in 4 years. I have NO FAITH that thats going to work out. None. I'd put more faith in a guy your scouting team pulled in during year 1 than some guy who's been a healthy release from an 8th of the teams in the league. Smh, you get cut from the Bengals Offensive Line, that's not a good sign. Their line was downright awful and he couldn't make that? Yeah I'd rather have any of our UDFAs back over that guy.

Trying to remember who the Saints cut to make room for Billy Price, ran across this. Wasn't a fan of this signing when it happened.

Would have easily taken Price over any UDFA that was 90th on the roster. I thought he would be quality depth. However, apparently he is not healthy.

He was a known commodity on his 5th team. At this point, the 90th spot on the roster type of guy. Give me an UDFA with potential over that any day.

Nah, he had a legitimate shot to make the team if he were healthy. He was not starter material any more, but had a shot at being quality depth. He has been a starter for most of his career. Maybe we will find another veteran backup C or swing C/G that can fill that role.
