Saints-Steelers Hall of Fame Game - August 5th (1 Viewer)

by the way, was the question ever decided: will a local station carry the game, regardless of the nfl network?

another by the way: won't this give us one less week to negotiate with our draft picks if we want them in camp on time? if camp starts a week early....

but if ur in the new orleans area, does the game come on still without nfl tv

This is my last post about the DirecTv vs Cable issue because this is a thread about the preseason game. thewrym, where you live your numbers may be correct but down here your numbers mean nothing and are in no way close to what is real here. Since the storm more people are getting sattelite and it continues to rise. Don't come here spoutting off a bunch of numbers that do not correlate to our area. The numbers don't lie down here and most people are sick and tired of the cable companies. I am very happy that the Saints are getting the first preseason game of the year. This means we will start training camp before everyone else so we will start to get football news before everyone else. I cannot wait for the new season. The SuperBowl is almost over and new season begins.

Look, I understand your anger, but it is getting you nowhere fast. You need to realize that the NFL owns the NFL Network, which means it pockets the profit from advertising and from selling its channel to cable networks. Your best bet is to do what the Serenity Prayer says, "Accept the things you cannot change". Either you can go to a friend's house or buy a dish.

Or just get digital cable and watch it there. The price for that tier is equivelent to dish or to directv and the signal on HD channels isn't compressed to the point it is no longer HD.

I hate to say it but cable will soon be a thing of the past. If you look and see what is going on they are having problems just carrying local networks. WWL is having to do last minute negotiations just so Cox will carry them. Cox would be hurt much more than WWL in the deal so it ends up being in Cox best intrest to carry WWL. This is just a microcosom of the situation. Unless you live like in an apartment or somewhere where you cannot put up a dish then what would you need cable for anyway when you think about it? I understand that some peoples landlords or apartment owners will not let them put up direcTv but if they did then cable would be history. There would be no reason to argue with cable companies anymore and everybody would be happpy. Everything about satellite seems much better than cable as far as programing because of Sunday Ticket and NFL network. Those are the big things but then you also don't have to put up with the cable companies bullying you about programming and pricing. I think this competition is great because finally cable has to get off there high horse. Remember when they were the only game in town? I know you do because the cable companies did not let us forget they were the only game in town. It is funny how things come around and go around.

1 Cable is easier to have in various rooms.
2 In my comparisons it is cheaper also with no equipment to buy.
3 New technology skews toward Cable such as Cable cards to eliminate the box. Even TIVO has a new HD recorder out that takes two cable cards giving you ability to record two channels and watch another. This is not a possibility with satellite.
4 I have tons of In Demand stations with cable including a free zone area where I can call up an program from HGTV or A&E or other cable stations, with the ability to fast forward, pause, etc. By offering this, I don't even have to record these shows. Example would be ROME on HBO. I can call up any episode of ROME, SOPRANOS or any other HBO show for free. It is included with my HBO subscription with cable.
5 Satellite offers HD Lite. The signal actually varies throughout the day and is so much below the standard DirecTV is actually being sued in California for not delivering true HD. Search the web with Google under HD Lite and you'll see a ton of information about this. Cable offers full quality HD without compressing it.
6 Upload speed for high speed internet is pathetic with satellite. Not good enough to use for many businesses. Cable on the other hand continues to increase this speed.
7 Cable doesn't go out when bad weather hits.
8 Majority of technology and people are moving to cable. Eventually DirecTV will lose the Sunday Ticket exclusitivity and they'll be done other than for rural locations. For those of us that live in our home team's area, that is a moot point anyway.

As to cable going away check out this link:
http://www.ncta.com/ContentView.aspx?contentId=54

Annual subscriber revenue for cable: $74.6 Billion. Don't think its going anywhere soon.
Annual subscriber revenue for DirectTV: 3.19 Billion.

Whats all this talk of watching the game on NFL network?????

We should all find this the perfect reason to visit Canton. Come on, it would be great, all who can should follow the Saints next year. Southwest and Airtran have round trip flights for less than $100 to almost all opponet cities.

BTW Cox is really screwing us with the NFl network thing at least yall in Nawlins have the option to buy it in the red stick we are stuck.

Oh and you have to work for Cox with that talk. Lets see my cox bill in BR for every channel is $130 and $30 for internet.
In Kenner I have the Dish I pay $99 for every channel. No deals no discounts thats the price.
HD lite is max 720i never 1080i, So yeah that and the weather are strikes against the dish. Cox being ther lone cable provider and their ever increasing prices are reason alone to leave them behind.

The only reason I keep cable here is because I have tenants and I provide cable for them, it is very hard to split dish signals, but it trumps cable hands down. more channels.

But I am starting to get hooked on this "on demand" so I guess I will pay more for TV than I do for my car.

I have just about every channel with Cox digital HD DVR, and HBO. Don't have Showtime, or Starz. I pay $83 per month for it. How are you paying $130 for Cable. Are you sure that isn't with internet added in, or with lots of in demand movies added in.

I priced the same package I have currently with DirecTV minus the In Demand Channels they don't offer, and it was about $8 more expensive plus I would have to buy a $199 HD DVR.

Also, for those saying more HD (HD LITE) channels are coming on satellite this year, here is a link for you. Their satellite blew up.

DirectTV is a wonderful option. And with the high cost of Cable is very competitive as well.....

Oh....and the service is much better than cable too.

The only negative is that weather can be a factor, though it has to be pretty bad.

Bad weather, south Louisiana??? I think I'll stick with cable.

Thanks for helping me make my point inetnawlins. I am so sick of DirecTV getting so much love when it is such an inferior product. And you aint kidding with indemand. At least 5 shows I watch regularly I don't even have to bother recording.

New Orleans Saints vs. Pittsburgh Steelers HOF Game

I am not sure if this was posted already, but I seen on the bottom line on NFL Network that the hall of fame game will be between the Saints and Steelers. Way to go Saints. About time we get some respect.

If you get Directv...you get the NFL Network...24/7 NFL football....it's like the season never ends...they show all of the past years games of the week, each teams highlight film, and replays of some of the greatest games in NFL history. They also carry exclusive coverage of the scouting combine. They have a hour show everynight kinda like sportscenter, but it's all NFL.You also get the late season Thursday and Saturday games. You get NFL network not just for the Saints, but their total programing. I been having it for two years now and it's the most watched station on my t.v.

You speak untruth inetnawlins. The majority of people in my area which is the northsore are switching to DirecTv period. The population is not happy at all with the cable carrier Charter. The people are sick of the price increases for nothing. The people are sick of channels they cannot get because cable decides in it's almighty wisdom that it is to pricy to carry that station, but we will give you 13 spanish soap opera channels. DirecTv has upgraded so much that during heavy thunderstorms there is no interruption of service at all in my house. Live in a fantasy land all you want but my first cousin works as a head end technician at one of the local companies and they have meetings on how to save thier customers from leaving. He states that every day people are comming in and turning in thier cable boxes. When asked why they are turnning in thier boxes, the response is that they are not moving but switching to satellite. He says one of the big things that hurt them locally was after the storm if you had electricity and satellite, you were watching tv, but if you had cable, it was months before you got to watch any tv. The cable companies are so desperate that they are offering money and free months of cable if you will bring them your satellite box and install cable instead. These are the facts from the inside of the cable company. One other fact that is pretty important in relation to the NFL. According to the NFL DirectTv will continue for some time to be the exclusive carrier of the Sunday Ticket. You can say what you want, you and wyrm, but those are the facts and not from the DirecTv side, from the cable side, from a person who does not want to lose thier job in cable.
