In a 3-4, guys like Granderson, Young, Turner, & Foskey would be your OLB's instead of DE's. Davis, Werner, Gay, & Jackson would be your ILB's.

Cam, Breese, and Ridgeway would be your DE's. Shepard & Saunders would be your NT's (both could be greatly upgraded).

Might be a good switch up, man vs man left to many voids in the defense, I like the way Tampa plays defense with their zone concepts, keeping players in front of you at every level while the front four rushes the passer.
 
The Vikings pass defense was their weakness, but I guess you can say it was the talent.

My thoughts as well, they blitzed to speed things up so the secondary wouldn’t have to cover as long. The high amount of turnovers suggest that they played zone behind the blitz so those players could have eyes on the ball
 
Number 1 priority for improving defense is forcing teams to throw more and run less. Three things can make that happen: Improving the DL with stonger DT and getting a good strong safety. It wasn’t the same last year with Maye gone and hasnt been the same since CGJ left.

Next, if offense can build early lead then the opponent will be forced to pass more to catch up.

Its not complicated and its not rocket science. The Saints can be back in the playoffs in 2025 with these simple improvements.

That scheme was vastly different. DA put a large emphasis on star secondary players to force coverage sacks. It worked well until we lost so much front 7 talent (due to contracts and aging) that teams began to run the ball at will and even with superb coverage, our pass rush rarely ever got to the QB which would allow QB's 4+ seconds to throw the ball. Secondary just can't cover that long consistently. That kind of time allows receivers to long to get open.

It appears that we're looking at DC's who run an aggressive front 7 which will result in teams run game capability being less effective and QB's having less time to throw, which will transition to not needing star secondary players everywhere to find success.
 
By forcing teams to pass more you lower their effectiveness in controlling time of possession, especially if they have to go for longer paases which have lower percentages of completion. So being more dominant in run defense and forcing teams to play catch up gives your team better chances for success. Of course, this is contingent on having good offensive production.
 
I hope Daronte Jones is the guy and we can get Staley for assistance HC/Linebackers.

By all things I’ve read Staley is a detailed guy, but that detail leads to things being over complicated. Can’t see the forest for the trees kinda guy. He’s be the details guy to Kellen’s big picture, but I’d absolutely cry if he ends up as DC.

Jones being a secondary guy just feels right and Staley can help tie the fronts to the coverage (it was his secondary that failed as Chargers HC)

Maybe LB coach/Run game coordinator. Or Assistant HC/Run game coordinator

At his age, 3-4 might fit a guy like Cam Jordan better. The job of outside containment shifts a bit more toward the LB’s. If Cam plays on the outside of the DL, he could potentially be effective for another season or two. I’d really like to see him retire as a Saint.
