I think everybody can pretty much figure out that the #1 topic by national cartoonists for the weekend of June 19 is going to be the New Yorker cover depicting Barack and Michelle as Muslim terrorists, right? So, without further adieu...

The next most used topic among the cartoonists was President Bush. McCain cartoons are virtually nonexistant this week.

In summary for the week:

In a presidential campaign, it does not bode well for a candidate if he's not even mentioned by editorial cartoonists. Such is the case with Senator McCain this week. Cagle at MSNBC features 22 pages of cartoons with five cartoons to the page and there wasn't one about McCain this week.

On the other hand, with the New Yorker cartoon, his pending visit to Iraq and his "alleged" move to the center, Senator Obama is showing up in roughly one out of every four editorial cartoons on the pages of this week's newspapers.

It's like the old Broadway adage about critics: They may be talking bad about you, but at least they're talking about you!

The last Saturday in July has arrived and like most other media outlets, editorial cartoonists are on the Obama story as their #1 item...with a twist.
