Sean Payton’s crowd reception when he returns (4 Viewers)

He spent 16 years here. Won 7 NFCS titles and a Super Bowl.
He was gonna leave eventually.

He helped dig us into salary cap hell to the point that we can't turn over the team in the same way we were able to when he took over the team.... Nostalgia is a hell of drug. I don't care about the past. I care about the here and now.

I see your point, but to act like he’s Rich Kotite, Adam Gase, or Urban Myer?

Nostalgia is a hell of a drug, but you can’t ignore what he built here.

He should get cheered like crazy no matter what.

We can argue until we’re blue in the face if it was him or Brees who was most responsible for changing the culture of the franchise. But it doesn’t happen at all without both of them.

The fact we’re disappointed in DA is a testament to the new bar that Payton set.

If we date for 16 years and you screw me over in the end... there aint gonna be any kissy kissy make up time.
Parcells went elsewhere.
As did Jimmy Johnson.
Mike Shannahan.
Hank Stram.
Even Vince Lombardi.

I would hope he will be booed loudly.

First, he will be wearing the colors of the opposing team.

Second, he was given everything he wanted as head coach to the point where he was the de facto general manager, he shaped the team you are currently watching, and he quit.

I can understand cheering Payton 10 years from now when his name is put in the Superdome circle. But not now.

SP made us supremely legit for years. I hope he is cheered like he deserves…..and we manage to pull it out in the end.

Jimmy Johnson, Hank Stram, and Mike Shanahan did coach multiple teams. But Johnson and Stram did it after being fired and Shanahan after being fired twice.

Lombardi is an interesting story. He did leave Green Bay for another team. He stepped down as head coach in 1967 and stayed on as general manager for a year. He left the Packers after the 1968 season to take over the Redskins. Perhaps when he left, there were some hard feelings. But in Green Bay he won four championships and not only turned the franchise around but perhaps kept it from leaving Green Bay. And he died of cancer after only a season in Washington.

You're acting like he went to Atlanta.
The man quit on us after digging us into the grave we(yall) didn't know we were standing in.

If he was a retired visitor.. cheers galore.. but he wearing someone else's colors now

It's unfortunate that happened, but if not for him at the end of the day [and Drew], where would the Saints ever be?

In Jets and Browns territory.
A much smaller fanbase.
No expectations.
You wouldn’t have any Saints in the Hall. It’s no accident that they started getting in post XLIV.
No identity in the national consciousness.
