Sean Payton has obviously enjoyed his offseason heading into his, Payton had to catch himself here too. On The Rich Eisen Show today, Jul 23, Payton was giving a phone interview with the host when he was asked how many NFL training camps this would be for him. A quick hesitation, then 22 is the answer. It should be 23 but he had to sit out a year.

The 2012 Season is the one which Payton had to sit out because of an NFL suspension due to Bountygate. So, 22. Good, we’re with you Coach. Moving on. The year 1997 was when Sean Payton first broke into the NFL as a coach although only a quarterbacks coach..

The former Eastern Illinois quarterback who had become the former scab quarterback for the 1987 Chicago Bears and never held a head coaching job, was getting his shot in the NFL. Just three years later, Bill Parcells had him in New Jersey as offensive coordinator for the Giants, then from 2003-2005 as assistant head coach and offensive coordinator for the Cowboys and then to New Orleans in 2006 as head coach. Oh, and then just three more years to a Super Bowl.
