I rarely vote on forum questions, but I happily voted "love them" on this.

As with anything in life, nothing is truly 100% amazing at all times......there are certain times you might run into abnormal lines (evening before Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, news of a major upcoming storm, etc.), but far more often than not, it's much more convenient than being behind somebody who is holding up a line because they are convinced that the price they saw was different than the price that rang up.....or who has 2 buggies full of items, because they're shopping for someone else as well.

I stopped at a circle K one day in Gonzales. They had a self checkout, but it was different than any i have seen. You just put you items on the table (had a bunch of small circles and also had a cover), and it rang up everything i had. We use RFID labels on all of our products at my warehouse, so i am pretty sure that self checkout was desgined with RFID readers. the ones we use are about 30 cents each, but they are larger (3x1 inch). if you have much smaller ones, i assume they would be much cheaper.
That self checkout is what Walmart needs to go to. Much harder to fake scan something when you don't actually have to scan it, it just picks it up..
Also, Walmart Plus has a feature where you just scan the items with your phone using the app while you are shopping and you do not have to go to a checkout at all. I am tempted to sign up just for that to see how it works. But I dont want to be the one stopped at the door and harrassed for stealing because i did something wrong or just an ignornt employee...

Voted bottom 2. I hate them and would prefer they scan and bag themselves while I interact with another human, or play on my phone, but use them occasionally when I have only a few items and I am in a hurry.

I don’t have a problem with self checkout, but the new phenomenon of congested aisles filled with curbside delivery cages and their stockers. I’ve got to play games of bumper carts just to get around the place.

100% use them whenever I can. Just like paying our restaurant bill on an app. Anything I can do to avoid human interaction.

Say what you will . . . I get plenty of social interaction throughout my week. So much of it that if I want to buy my Miller Lite and taco fixins without having to have meaningless conversation, then that's what I want to do.

I generally use them, the only exceptions are if I have alot of items and the line for the register is short or non-existent.

Or if there is a cute chick working the register.

Anyone other than me gone to an Amazon Fresh or GO store?

The one down the street from me you use the Amazon app and scan a QR code when you enter. Fill your bags as you go, and then walk out the gate on the other side when you are done.

No checkout, it charges the card on your Amazon account for what you have in your bags.

i use them maybe 13.7% of the time
I shop at Trader Joes 50% of the time, Whole Foods & Winn Dixie 20% each and Rouses 10%
Rouses is the only one I would prefer not interacting with the clerks, I actually like interacting with TJ and WF clerks (esp TJ)
Trader Joe’s doesn’t have them but their employees are more than content to let customers bag their own ish.

I do not work there. Not doing your job for you!

The Sam's club I shop at has that, but my buggy is usually filled with heavy items, so I need 2 hands on the buggy to push, so the phone is impractical.

I don't mind bagging my own, in fact I'm particular about how my groceries get bagged. Not a fan of the bored 17yr old slinging my stuff without thought into the bag. Esp if I'm 45min away from home and I want my cold items to stay cold.
