I don't like when cashiers make conversation about what I'm purchasing, which happens more than you'd expect. There is this one guy that every time I'd go into his line he'd look at what I was buying and start guessing as to what meal I was preparing then giving me his opinions on whether he would like that or not. NOBODY ASKED, BRO.

So for that reason I actually don't mind self checkouts all that much. I do recoil in horror when I accidentally look up and see myself in the security monitor. But I also do that when I pass a mirror.

I’ve had a couple of trips to various stores where I just hoped they would asked. They can barely look me in the eye.

I went to Trader Joe’s & Ralph’s tonight. I was at desperation levels of groceries in the house so finally bit the bullet & went. They actually had enough people at TJ’s that I didn’t have to bag my own groceries.

Then at Ralph’s - where they NEVER have enough cashiers, the guy bagged my ish but left the bags on the table part of the register and didn’t put them in my basket. That place is ghetto.

Have you been to Trader Joe’s? Their cashiers are all late 20’s - early 30’s pretentious hipsters who act like they make loads more money than me & im just some peasant.
The Trader Joes out here has careful meticulous baggers, regardless of their age. The other major grocery stores, Shop Rite, and Stop n Shop have crappy cashier/baggers, and it's at those store where I happily head to the self-checkout line...

Anyone other than me gone to an Amazon Fresh or GO store?

The one down the street from me you use the Amazon app and scan a QR code when you enter. Fill your bags as you go, and then walk out the gate on the other side when you are done.

No checkout, it charges the card on your Amazon account for what you have in your bags.
That's gonna be a no for me dawg! That's how they get you!

What do you think about self checkouts?

I'll use them occasionally if I only have an item or two or three and if there are no manned check outs free

But I hate when I only have an item or two and don't want a bag, but it insists I use a bag

Then my one small item is too light to register on the scale and it keeps yelling at me to 'put in item in the bagging area'

I hate the ones that say every item as you scan it, "Extra Strength Butt Rash Cream 3 dollars and 17 cents"

I hate when the item refuses to scan

I hate the stores that only have self checkouts

When there is an issue with the machine when the surly disdainful employee comes over and sighs deeply because the machine they should be manning themselves isn't working right

These machines are supposed to be for a small amount of items, I hate when people are trying to use self check out with a Thanksgiving sized cartful of items
I just hate it when the machine won’t accept my counterfeit money. 😥

The Bass Pro Shop needs a self checkout. The maximum two cashiers staffed ask you 5 different questions before ever ringing up your items, takes FOREVER.

Sam's Club tries to make you move all your items to an empty cart as you scan them, nullifying the time saved by doing it yourself. I refuse to remove my items, they are all sitting bar code up, ready to be scanned!

Many years ago I was at Walgreens buying some antacids. The cashier dude commented, "stomach feeling upset?" To which I replied, "if I was buying condoms would you have asked if I was feeling horny?" He didn't know how to respond. I get having some idle chit-chat during the purchasing process, but commenting on what a person is buying should be off-limits and part of standard training.

Don't care. I loathe plastic bags.
I accidentally gave you a "meh" for this last night. I've corrected the egregious error and hope you don't work your Tech Admin powers to my detriment.

I also loathe the plastic bags, hence my using reusable, washable bags. Yes, they're made of nylon but I've saved countless plastic trees since I bought them, and am now on the plus side of the "wasteful plastic" ledger.
