Should Saints interview Marcus Freeman? (merged) (13 Viewers)

The NFL game in my opinion is actually closer to the college game now than when Arizona hired Kingsburry and especially since the Urban Meyer and Saban experiments.

I think what many are forgetting is that there’s now money in college football and the transfer portal. Not NFL money but today’s college coaches are getting a taste of what NFL coaches have to deal with. I’ve always thought that the toughest transition at least now for a college coach to coach in the NFL is the difficulty in building a complete NFL caliber coaching staff. It’s not as easy as just bringing all your position coaches and coordinators with you. In addition the limited roster size, all college coaches are blessed with having a roster that is easily 2-3 deep at each position on game day especially in the power conferences.

I’m sure Saban has at some point discussed the challenges of going from college to NFL coaching but if my memory serves correctly his biggest issue with the Dolphins was getting the egos of multi millionaires to buy into his system even though he comes from the Belecheat tree lol. Like I said though in my opinion I think that college coaches now, including Freeman and yes Deion Sanders are more equipped especially as former players at coaching and managing those egos.
No. The talent level is different. It's the best of the best in the NFL. In college wr are more open, it’s easier to play QB. For the most part team's don't have the number of quality players that NFL rosters have . After a player is drafted they talk about having to adjust to the speed of the NFL game. I would hate to bring a college coach in and wait for him to adjust to the speed of the game

I hear what you’re saying but Coaches don’t adjust to the speed of the game. Besides, you’re not bringing in an entire college roster with a college coach, you already have NFL caliber talent on your team. It’s about bringing a culture of accountability, the motivation to get your team to execute your vision/scheme and give maximum effort. Saban didn’t fail as an NFL coach because he “couldn’t adjust to the speed of the game”.

Does Freeman have any NFL experience? Because there is a big difference between coaching kids that are attending classes, frat parties, etc and coaching grown men that are being paid to do a job. Not saying he doesn't know his x's and o's, just that getting that respect from an NFL player is different than getting it from a kid out of HS.
