Should Saints interview Marcus Freeman? (merged) (1 Viewer)

There are so many layer and reasons why they went to this playoff system. I am still convinced that a 3 or 4 loss SEC team would’ve boat raced some of those teams, but they didn’t want to see that. Ultimately, I’d like to see more teams join the SEC (not many), and they create their own super league
Ahhh the ever popular hypotheticals rears its head when the SEC comes in to play.

The way I hear it they are undefeated when hypotheticals are concerned. Of course with the SEC "it just means more." snort...

Freeman would be near the top of my list, but not sure if he'd want to mess with the NFL. He has a good thing going at Notre Dame.

But he is incredibly impressive every time I hear him talk. Very bright and seems to be a great person too.

Freeman is a great coach and if he wins a natty in the first year of the combined NiL, 12 team playoff era, then being the Notre Dame coach might be the best HC job in football.
Why is the guy who replaced Kelly performing better at Notre Dame than LSU?

Oh don’t think I won’t drop some facts about this. Go ahead and name another conference that has had the level of dominance the SEC has had the past quarter century.

Some say that's about to change because southern states don't have the deep pockets and alumni to support NIL like other parts of the country. SMU has a bigger endowment than LSU or Bama (almost 2 bil).

It is about to change bc of NIL. Guys can get the bag at any college and play in a weak conference, if they choose to. It’s what the NCAA wanted. They wanted parity, they got parity. Now they have to worry about the ill effects of what the NIL is doing

You mean...like....Alabama??!

Despite their recent run of success, the SEC was "whatever" this year. Nobody was snubbed, and nobody was a threat to win it all.

I like what he is doing at ND, although ND would not have been in under the past playoff format. I would have concerns about him taking a job like the one in New Orleans because a big chunk of players on the ND roster were recruited by Kelly and his staff while there, which I understand Freeman was apart of. We just have no way of knowing if he knows how to rebuild a team/organization and that is what we need. While ND was around 40th in the country in the portal rankings, they did much better in recruiting with the 9th-best class in 2024. I think he is a good college coach and should stay there for some time and get more experience. I doubt he would be interested in an NFL job right now. Especially since they have almost no chance to win it all this year. I think he will want to come back to ND a year or longer and take another shot at it.

I just disagree when they say that. There is no proof to say that the southern schools do not have the funding or at least cannot come up with enough funding.

As of December 2024 here are the NIL Collective funding per NCAA

Texas $22.2M
Ohio State $20.2M
LSU $20.1M
Georgia $18.3M
Texas A&M $17.2M
Michigan $16.3M
Alabama $15.9M
Florida $15.9M
Clemson$15.2M

I mean the southern schools seem to be doing pretty well with NIL funding. SMU is a private school so they are not required to list funding, which means they are not required to be listed on list like this.
