Should Saints Trade for Davante Adams? (11 Viewers)

I don't think he's garnering a 1st Rd pick in return, but maybe I'm crazy?
He's essentially on a 1 yr deal, because his base salary balloons to 35M next year with a cap hit of 44M and it's the same for 2026. No guarantees remain after this year. That is not worth much more than a maybe a 2nd Rd pick on the very high side, to me--even with his type of production.

We should be exploring tightend options, a viable tightend would have the biggest impact this season.

No. I think there’s a good chance he gets cut next year…so we could talk about signing him at that point…but I’m not interested in his 40 and 45 mil cap hits in this age 32 and 33 seasons

What do you think a Saints trade for Devonte Adams would cost?

Not another “let’s trade or sign everyone” thread. I feel like I’ve thought this out.

Only asking because even though the system is more Niners style now, it’s still west coast based and we are really lacking an X/Split end guy if AT Perry isn’t him.

Adams is not the cap hit they want to take on but long term they’d already planned on Mike making about the same anyway. And you’re not paying Ramcyzk or Cam over next few years and have Carr cheaper than most teams pay. This trade really solidifies that position group for next 3 years with Olave as the Z and Shaheed etc playing roles that fit their skill sets.

I’m guessing it costs a 1 and 2, but a lot of people have Saints as a bottom 5 team and this organization has only won less than 7 games once in last 25 seasons (Katrina year).

So forgive me for having a hard floor of 7-9 wins in a bad division, but if they view it as a top 5-7 pick and we don’t, trade the pick for someone proven.

Thoughts?

Wouldn't Brandon Aiyuk fit that mold? He's been given permission to seek a trade. He's younger and about $8m/yr cheaper.

But, I'm just dreaming here... Aiyuk in also too expensive, and in a contract year.

If you can get a star player do it, Aggressive and smart teams are not paralyzed with the thought of parting with draft picks. There is always a way to get draft picks if need be.

Wouldn't the Raiders have to want to trade him? Everything I've heard is that Devonte is happy with the Raiders and they are happy with him.

That said, I'd rather have a younger player, so like Andrus said, Aiyuk would be a better target, and his team actually may be willing to trade him.

Aiyuk is too small to play split end.

Typically on the LoS you want someone +6’2” and +210-220lbs

There’s not a lot of options in FA. Mike, Corey Davis, Julio…all of them are on the older side.

AT Perry hasn’t had a good camp and it’s why we signed Calloway.

Nothing is being taken away from Olave or Shaheed as someone mentioned. They play a different position in the offense. We have a GLARING hole at the X position in my humble opinion and there’s no depth there at all.

Lots of competition there from Perry, Calloway, St Brown, Wilson, and Bub Means so it’s obvious they are trying to figure out who that guy is going to be but since Mike got hurt we’ve struggled to fill that role and it’s an important one. And I am just not seeing those guys getting where they need to be a month from now.

It’s #2 thing I’m watching for on Saturday besides the OTs.

Unless he can play on the offensive line, then no.....

I think our WR room, albeit young, is among the least of our concerns. All the offensive firepower in the world won't help if the offensive line can't perform well.....
It’s still a big concern but oline is the even bigger concern. We do need a top notch guy to play with Olave and Shaheed.

No

If IF you make this sorta of deal--which we cant and shouldn't---you go younger with Aiyuk

Based on his age 31, where we are at as a team both roster wise and financially (seems like this indeed a breather year), I'd say this is probably too rich at this time.

You also have the fact that the Raiders have adamantly stated that Adams is not for sale.

If we were a team clearly on the verge and wanted to add one more weapon to put us over the top, sure. But I am not convinced that we are that team right now.
He’s for sale now

makes more sense now that we've seen that an injury here or there can derail the offense, specifically at the receiving position. The schemed around McCoy and Ruiz being down just fine, but games where Taysom has gone out, and we have to get out of heavy personnel pretty much expose our lack of talent at the skill position.
