Shout out to Derek Carr (1 Viewer)

Can we put the Carr vs. Winston thing to bed now?
In person Winston was bad. Not sure how it looked on tv. He had a few accurate deep balls we made great plays on and he did show some poise and delivered some strikes, but the kind of balls like back shoulder throws that can make or break you at this level….he looked really bad.

Actually, 2nd round pick at #36.

Ehh, I was kind of close, still most NFL fans, observers, commentators once his career is finished will still say he ended up having a longer, still-difficult and problematic yet more successful career then that of his older, first round draft bust brother, David Carr.

Although, again David Carr was drafted into an almost-impossible, no-win situation where his confidence, stride, poise and character was significantly tested and damaged by being constantly sacked, hit, knocked down by a non-existent O-line and terrible offense on a brand new expansion Houston Texans team over 22 years ago.

We will likely never see a QB that looks like Drew Brees did again as a Saint. He was a A.I. processor out there, playing near flawless football almost every week, and can do well regardless of who was out there with him.

Derek Carr is what a normal good QB looks like. It doesn’t look as effortless as Brees made it look, there will be head-scratching moments, and there will be flat-out bad games every now and then. Conversely, he can make all the throws, and will put up efficient stat lines most weeks, and probably needs plenty of help from his supporting cast. People just aren’t used to that concept, but if you watch other games, you will see this is typical good, non-HOF type QB play in today’s NFL.

Didn’t catch the game today, but scanned X and didn’t see a Michael Thomas tweet in the timeline so Carr must have played well.

He’s trying to get back in the team’s good graces now that DA is gone, for his 2025 comeback attempt. 😂

To say his brother was put in a bad position is absurd. He was beaten like a rented mule! The only QB I ever saw get as consistently brutalized was Archie. Not many have had the athletic ability that Archie did. The line famously yelled "Look out Archie" as a matter of course. Carr's line didn't even have time to shout.
Derek is doing well, overcoming adversity & making it go. Remember, there are only about a dozen people in the world better!

THIS is what I thought we would get from Carr. Made most of the routine throws. Hit some nice darts down the middle. Over threw people a couple of times. What you'd expect from a QB outside of the top 10. An all round good outing, not perfect but good.

What is frustrating is when he has an off game and misses the routine throws. Last year it happened a lot and soured people on him.

He was overshadowed by Taysom today…. But he played very well. I like the fact that he didn’t force anything and was very efficient. Hope he can build on that. Wish he had more weapons outside…. But it is what it is.
