TIL that as i type this, and from what i just read on a weather site- New Orleans currently has more snow than Anchorage .

It was. Today is the peak of cold blast. Now we will start to gradually warm up into weekend

Yes — lows about 5-7F lower than forecast in the NOLA area. Looks like some areas to our west dropped even more from the forecast lows.

Radiational cooling, as well. With all that snow, the temps will be colder.

The low temperature forecast for last night had to be revised due to the amount of snow that fell yesterday. When you couple the clear skies & calm winds with the deep snow all over southern Louisiana, it produced an 'ice box' effect where the snow contributed to the air temperature readings. This is why the low temperatures in south Louisiana was actually colder than areas above McComb, MS where they got far less snow pack. No doubt the remaining snow tonight will once again cause the temperatures to plummet quickly once the sun goes down.

My daughter is a freshman @ LSU & sent a video of the weather … my jaw dropped.

Hadn’t seen snow like that in Baton Rouge since I was a senior (almost 30 years ago) in High school. Wow !

If there’s ever a next time, I’m going to employ a tip I saw
Put cardboard or tarp over a patch of backyard and pull it back as needed
