The cans were probably much colder than the ground so they'll show what really came down. The ground down there is probably warm enough to melt the snow quickly. I'd be worried that the melting snow will turn to ice.Still snowing here too. And those measurements were taken at 2:00. I would guess they will eventually give out final official numbers soon. I'd guess we probably have around a foot total. But, I'm not exactly sure how they measure it. My garbage cans have like a foot and half on them. But there is a bit less on the ground.
Scrim still is alive
I think it really depends on low tonite and how long it remains. If 30, then shouldn't be that hard of a freeze and soon as temps hit 33 tomorrow, melt is on.If temps get to below 32 for a good while then ice is thicker and will take longer to melt.A couple of hours ago, I'd have said "no way". But after a few hours in full sun, the snow on our back street is "flattening" -- even with the air temperature around 30F right now. It's hard to predict what things will look like after a full day of sun and highs in the 35-37F range today. I don't have experience with this, obviously.I think what's going to be an issue for you tomorrow, though, is that today's snow melt will refreeze overnight, leaving the streets ice-slick. And I don't think that will be much diminished by 11:30 a.m. Thursday. Maybe later afternoon Thursday, giving the ice slick four or five more hours to melt.EDIT: And ... minutes after I typed this out, my son's high school (West Bank of Jefferson Parish) texted everyone that they've cancelled school tomorrow. Busses won't be able to roll, staff and parents wont be able to drive on the ice.
My phone app is saying low of 21 tonight. Temps below 32 from 630 pm Wed to 10 am Thurs. I agree with whatI think it really depends on low tonite and how long it remains. If 30, then shouldn't be that hard of a freeze and soon as temps hit 33 tomorrow, melt is on.If temps get to below 32 for a good while then ice is thicker and will take longer to melt.
Hopefully temps don't stay below 32 for more than 6 hrs or so overnight.

I've gotten a few texts from the city of Biloxi this morning about accidents. They are still asking everyoneSurface streets freeze and thaw differently than elevated roadways and overpasses. Haven’t been to Natchitoches in a few years, but I’d imagine you’ll have to deal with several.
If it were me and I didn’t HAVE to be there, I wouldn’t make the drive.
Apple Weather on my iPhone says Gretna temperatures will stay 28F and below for about 11 hours (~8 p.m. - ~7 a.m.) with an overnight low of 25F. Note that they missed high on last night's overnight low by several degrees.I think it really depends on low tonite and how long it remains. If 30, then shouldn't be that hard of a freeze and soon as temps hit 33 tomorrow, melt is on.If temps get to below 32 for a good while then ice is thicker and will take longer to melt.

Seeing the same thing here. Our lawn, sidewalk, and the street out front have melted quite a bit from the "kids" trampling down the snow yesterday. Lawns where no one played still look like smooth, fluffy snow as of now.I think that is what is going to happen. It's up to 33 degrees and the sun is out and melting some of the snow, especially in places where people walked.
Now ya tell me!Under the powdery snow is a slick sheet of solid ice. Almost busted my arse a few times.
I hope you’re right, because I have never seen this dude so happySticking with what I wrote yesterday evening:
Thinking on this some more ... I'll lay my chips on Saturday, early afternoon (for all traces of snow to be gone). There's a lot of accumulation to clear out -- I can see some icy/snowy nooks and crannies lasting into the weekend. Saturday highs are supposed to benorth of 65F57F (Wed a.m. update), so that will certainly finish off the rest of it.
