Sneaux next week [Historic snowstorm in southeast Louisiana on January 21, 2025] (174 Viewers)

So how long do we think before the snow starts really melting? Looking at the temperatures, maybe 10? Or does it not work like that

Trying to maximize that puppy snow time

It will be a slow melt. I would think more like afternoon. Temps have to get above 32. Radiant heating will melt some, but if temps stay around 32, so will snow.

Pup will have plenty of time to frolic in the snow.

If there’s ever a next time, I’m going to employ a tip I saw
Put cardboard or tarp over a patch of backyard and pull it back as needed
The sun basically rises at my back patio door and sets on the front, so my front yard has all this shade and nice fresh snow

Meanwhile the backyard is just paw and foot divots, but the sun started on that area early

Sticking with what I wrote yesterday evening:

Thinking on this some more ... I'll lay my chips on Saturday, early afternoon (for all traces of snow to be gone). There's a lot of accumulation to clear out -- I can see some icy/snowy nooks and crannies lasting into the weekend. Saturday highs are supposed to be north of 65F 57F (Wed a.m. update), so that will certainly finish off the rest of it.

so got word that the Thespian festival in Nachitoches is still on
we were supposed to leave by 11 tomorrow but that's been pushed to 1
that would have me leaving NO by 11:30 (for time cushion)
I'm wondering how safe/what the roads will be like

A couple of hours ago, I'd have said "no way". But after a few hours in full sun, the snow on our back street is "flattening" -- even with the air temperature around 30F right now.

It's hard to predict what things will look like after a full day of sun and highs in the 35-37F range today. I don't have experience with this, obviously.

I think what's going to be an issue for you tomorrow, though, is that today's snow melt will refreeze overnight, leaving the streets ice-slick. And I don't think that will be much diminished by 11:30 a.m. Thursday. Maybe later afternoon Thursday, giving the ice slick four or five more hours to melt.

EDIT: And ... minutes after I typed this out, my son's high school (West Bank of Jefferson Parish) texted everyone that they've cancelled school tomorrow. Busses won't be able to roll, staff and parents wont be able to drive on the ice.

I don't think roads will be safe for regular/casual travel until Thursday afternoon. Roads will be open.....many are now, but they are probably not safe to travel for leisure events.

i decided to clear my driveway this morning....

my brain had decided it would be easy but it's definitely not

at least i got to wear the fancy boots i 'borrowed' from Entergy years ago
