Probably better now as it's wetter. It was too dry yesterday. It's definitely melting, but it's still packing into some pretty tight snowballs
Maybe what's in the shade makes it to the evening

The fact that this storm was mostly snow kept it from being a genuine nightmare. Had we seen a huge ice storm to precede the arrival of the snowfall, there would have been major problems with power outages, and it would have practically crippled emergency crews & services throughout the area. For all the issues the snowstorm did cause, I believe we got off pretty easy during this history making event. Yesterday made for some good memories that will last a lifetime for most of the locals.Driveway is pretty clear. The roadway out front is clear .... and dry! Some areas of the lawn are nothing but grass and the areas that still have snow all have grass peeking through. The nightmare is almost over.
Definitely. There def. is a under layer of ice that I assume is from before the flakes started laying. I know all our precip was in the form of flakes and not sleet because my husband kept asking me all night -- starting at like 10 the night before -- Did it start yet?, so I kept going out to check. The fact that this storm was mostly snow kept it from being a genuine nightmare. My roof is still covered on all sides, but dripping. That means an ice sheet will form overnight. High was only 35Yeah if that holds true, then 8-10 hrs below 32 will be icy roads until sun bakes and temps get to 31 or better.
I figure by noon tomorrow most, if not all roads will be fine. Shady areas still slushy, but not ice.
fun fact for those who dont know- if part of your roof faces north, watch how long the snow lasts on that portion of roof. Due to the angle of sun, that side will stay in shade vs all 3 other sides.
Hence the name " North Face" ( and where the outerwear company derived its name )
Yeah, almost all the rooves here look the same even in the sun.My roof is still covered on all sides, but dripping. That means an ice sheet will form overnight. High was only 35
today. Once again it's going to be nasty conditions until we get in the 40's and stay there for awhile
The bright sun was very effective at helping to clear the roads here in town. I had to drive around town to check on the homes of a few friends today, and I only found one spot where there was still frozen snow still left on the road. But the quickly melting snow is leaving the roads completely wet just in time for the sub-freezing temperatures to move back in tonight. Hopefully folks aren't in a big hurry to start driving early tomorrow morning. As it stands now all bridges and ramps are still closed to traffic, and will likely remain that way until about midday tomorrow. And rightly so.My roof is still covered on all sides, but dripping. One would hope, because the second "closed" becomes "open", a bunch of CEOs are going to have their employees on the road. Couple people have indicated they were supposed to go in today as it iswill likely remain that way until about midday tomorrow. And rightly so
2 Bridges here have reopened. 5 have remained closed until furthur notice. I believe it was a mistakeOne would hope, because the second "closed" becomes "open", a bunch of CEOs are going to have their employees on the road. Couple people have indicated they were supposed to go in today as it is
Seems like it's MUCH safer to drive around right this second than it will be early tomorrow morning.I had to drive around town to check on the homes of a few friends today, and I only found one spot where there was still frozen snow still left on the road. Yea, this seems like the worst time to reopen unless you're shutting it back down tonight. Everything melting and refreezing is going to make things so much worse.2 Bridges here have reopened. 5 have remained closed until furthur notice. I believe it was a mistake
opening those two. Roads leading to them are still icy in spots
I always thought that was hyperbole (like it didn't actually stay yellow)i made yellow snow this morning....i was about to eat it but thankfully i remembered the rule...
