Sneaux next week [Historic snowstorm in southeast Louisiana on January 21, 2025] (68 Viewers)

It's definitely melting, but it's still packing into some pretty tight snowballs
Maybe what's in the shade makes it to the evening

Now ya tell me! 🤕

Hadn't taken a spill yet, and I've been outside taking photos twice so far this morning. But I'm almost crab-walking with a wide stance to maximize my chances of staying upright. Felt one foot-slip, but nothing too bad.

There definitely is solid ice under what's left of the powder, but right now that solid ice is kind of rough & craggy, if that makes sense (not ice-rink smooth). Tomorrow, I'm betting on a more serious ice risk than now, even for people on foot.

I went out last night to take out the garbage and almost did a faceplant into the snow. There was like a foot and a half of snow where I had to walk to get to the garbage.

In fact, I'm a little surprised how much has melted off the street already. There's a little creek of flowing runoff water alongside the curb (street drain is in front of our house). And the ruts from where vehicles have been driving are snow-free (and ice-free, for now).

The sun is strong. There's atmosphere temp and there's the temp that the ground actually is. Does that make sense?

Came into office for a bit- was quite surreal to drive I-12 and be the ONLY CAR for miles - exit to 190 and see that a plow had created a lane and a half ( 2 lanes ) and a 2 ft wall of snow on either side, in bright daylight.

The forecasts seem to vary but WDSU says it will hit 26 degrees at 7 p.m. and won't be above freezing until 8 a.m. tomorrow. That is for my area so probably a bit colder on the north shore?

Yeah if that holds true, then 8-10 hrs below 32 will be icy roads until sun bakes and temps get to 31 or better.

I figure by noon tomorrow most, if not all roads will be fine. Shady areas still slushy, but not ice.

fun fact for those who dont know- if part of your roof faces north, watch how long the snow lasts on that portion of roof. Due to the angle of sun, that side will stay in shade vs all 3 other sides.

Hence the name " North Face" ( and where the outerwear company derived its name )
