SP still thinks he's developing a QB? (1 Viewer)

Seriously? Word games and pretending you know what Payton DIDN'T say?

If you really want to play semantics and nuance, Payton said "While".

While in this context is a length of time or a duration which implies an conclusion.

While he is injured.
While he is in school.
While he is traveling.
While he is developing.

Not word games.

What you're doing with the quote is called eisegesis. Not that I expect you to know what that means, but that's why they invented search engines, I suppose. We get it, you want Hill to be the guy who takes over after Brees, but there's nothing in that quote that suggests Payton sees Hill the way that you do.

THE TAYSOM TIMELINE CASE CLOSED:

Payton Quotes & FACTUAL DATA:
- Payton telling Aikman IN-PERSON @ Saints Facility during 2018 season before a big game that he and Buck were calling that Drew’s Replacemant “Is In The Building” Aikman is on record as being shocked by Payton’s statement.(Teddy was NOT on team folks)
- Payton wanting to carefully groom Brees replacement(Taysom 2021 or 2022 timeline fits)
- Payton having multiple media quotes that “He Sees Taysom as a QB” a la VISION for Tayson is as a QB.
- Payton quoted as stating that “Taysom Hill IS STEVE YOUNG!” (Everyone knows Young took over for a Legend in Joe Montana!) Payton would not be quoted as a fool folks. Payton saying this is basically his version of “I know something yall don’t, so watch and see who’s right!”
- Steve Young personally stating that “he is no Taysom Hill” basically corroborating the Taysom Starting QB eventual scenario PLUS he knows Taysom & talks with Taysom cause they are both BYU Alumni folks!
- Teddy’s Reps stating that Teddy came back for a chance to learn under Brees & Payton & WAIT ON THE RIGHT STARTING QB OPENING(not Miami dumpster fire ?)
- Teddy’s 2020 $20+ Mil Price Tag requiring Saints to choose between Brees OR Teddy (easy guess duhhh Brees folks)
- Brees stating that he has no plans to retire; taking it Year to Year
- Brees looking like a caged animal on sideline while injured ? shows he has fire ? to play at least NEXT season 2020.(Teddy dowsn’t fit Cap wise in this scenario)
- Taysom a RFA in 2020 & VERY SIGNABLE
- Taysom has a brand new home under construction as reported by another user - this certainly supports a long term goal mindset for Taysom
- Teddy’s persona is that of a caretaker 100% Team Guy that leaves little clues in video interviews that he INTENDS TO BE A STARTER IN 2020(watch the Deion Sanders NFL Network Interview)
- UPDATE: Payton says Taysom is still developing as a QB
- Payton says Taysom has UNIQUE abilities to motivate EVERY TEAM MEMBER...
- Payton says, “It is 1st Time I’ve Ever Coached someone as gifted as Taysom!”

Payton is wisely allowing Taysom to gain repeated real game confidence in pressure situations.
I must admit...Payton is taking an unconventional approach to grooming the Saints next QB, but he is developing him quite nicely by utilizing his strengths 1st.
It's super fun to watch this process unfold in real time.
It's gonna be wild if the Saints start a UDFA at QB someday.

Last season it did not look like Taysom could be a fulltime QB in the NFL.
However, this past preseason's performance by Taysom was a huge leap in progress at the QB position.
We just have to wait and see how much better he can be next year.

I would like to see T. Hill used as a slot receiver a little more. May be saving that for the postseason. Once he gets the ball in his hands, he is a beast. He just challenges would be tacklers. CBs seem a little reluctant to take him on in the open field. Defensive backs intimidated by a third string QB! Love it!

If Taysom is our starting QB in the future that’s fine. If Teddy is that’s fine. But I would love to see Taysom in the slot like you say. Another Edelman...I could totally envision that. He’s definitely a good enough athlete to do so.

It doesn’t matter to me who our future is I just wanna win. If Coach thinks it’s Taysom that’s fine.

Who dat !!!

It is fair to say Taysom's injury history was the main reason he went undrafted. When he was healthy he was a good QB. His NFL career has been injury free despite his obvious abandon on the field.

I expect we will have 1 or 2 mean nothing games on the tail end. Who Sean Payton chooses to starts those games may tell us who is the keeper. If they don't expect to retain TB it makes a lot of sense to give Taysom some game time. Then again, if SP is game planing him for the playoffs then maybe they won't want to showcase him. I'm glad I'm not the one living or dying by those calls.

He's most certainly developing as a QB. He's on the QB depth chart and practices at the position. Whether he will ultimately win the starting job or not, when that position opens up, is up for debate. He is very exciting to watch, though. I believe Payton could effectively design an offense around him that suits his strengths. I'm a huge Taysom fan, and want him to succeed as a QB, but in all honesty, I don't know if he will be the guy or not. He's certainly not a bad option to have, though.
