Sports card collecting (2 Viewers)

I used to collect as well. Still have some of the more valuable (albeit not much) cards that I'd collected to that point. The market became saturated with ultra high end varieties IMO. I'm not going to pay upwards of $10, $20 or $100 a pack for a *chance* at an auto or memorabilia card and 3 or 4 other potentially worthless cards. I'd rather cherry pick cards that I'm interested in via eBay, etc. But I did pass the card aisle at Walmart the other day and *almost* bought some on clearance.

Fast forward 3+ years and I’ve started back collecting. Mostly use WhatNot (don’t start, I warned you) and discord groups to buy into case and box breaks of soccer cards. Still try to limit myself and not overspend. But definitely more into the hobby than I was when I posted 3 years ago.

I felt that this was a double dog dare, so I STARTED.

Looks like the prices are cheaper than eBay. I haven't dug too deep but whats up with the live shows? Can you purchase from those live feeds and get better deals?

Bruh, WhatNot is like a drug if you don't watch yourself.

Card collecting, in general, is the same. Don't even get me started about live breaks. It's just an unregulated form of gambling.

So you’ll have different types of streams. Some are singles sales, some are breaks. You can get some deals on singles if you know your comps and know the room.

Yes, it’s all live streamed auctions.

Yeah, I have to self-regulate on the breaks. It sucks but it is what it is. I’ll allow myself to buy into some but usually set a limit.

Hit a few nice numbered autos recently.

Like everyone here, I used to collect cards many years ago and haven't thought about it since. I knew the bubble burst and most cards were useless.

Then I ran into this documentary, which I definitely recommend, that shows just how much of a comeback cards have made, especially in the past 3-5 years.

IMG_2365.jpegI’m going to send this one in to get graded. I forgot I had it. It’s a ‘98 rookie card. It was kept in this protective case ever since I opened the pack in 1998. I had it stuffed away with my Saints cards.

This is for my personal collection. Spent probably $50 total on eBay in separate purchases recently.

Rookie cards for Brees, Swilling, Hilliard, Rickey, Mort, and Eric Martin.

Brees is my favorite all time Saint. Swilling is my favorite defensive player. That dude won defensive player of the year when the likes of Reggie White, LT, Deion, Derrick Thomas, and Bruce Smith were all in their primes.

He remains the last Saint to win it.

My man just can’t catch a break. Imagine him browsing eBay and seeing his rookie card just sitting their for a quarter and no bidders after 7 days.

I’m might splurge

Edit:

I have a soft spot

The stamp to mail it to you will cost more than that.

I collected only baseball cards in the 70's until 81. I only bought Topps cards and I had complete sets from 73-80. Wish I still had them but not knowing that many of the were worth quite a bit I gave the entire collection to my Pastor's son who was as big of a baseball fan as I was back then. Quite a few of them were actually signed by the players they depicted I had pretty much every Red Sox player during that time period since me and my dad would go to Fenway 3-4 times a year and players would give autographs before the game. I even had a Robin Yount signed rookie card.,
