Steve Smith’s WR rankings for the draft (47 Viewers)

Not disagreeing. But it’s hard to name WRs drafted in the top 10-12 of the first round who couldn’t routinely take the top off of a defense.

Yup, and a lot of them flame out.....teams have made this mistake forever (overrated 40 times).....If you look at an all time WR's list most would be shocked at how many weren't track stars.....

Completely new dynamic in New Orleans if we'd take Warren or Loveland in round 1 then Higgins in round 2. That would get me excited. We might still be a mid team next season, but at least it would feel like we're moving in a positive direction.

I've always been for beefing up the OL and DL early, but we could do that and still need to do that next year and the next and the next. Eventually we need to build an offensive identity. Olave-Sheed-Higgins-AK-Warren would feel like a really good start.

We need a Michael Thomas type receiver. MT-Olave shoulda-woulda-coulda been incredible but the timing was off several years.

Olave would've been just what the doctor ordered in 2018 and '19. Desperately needed a bona fide WR2 and 3 both those years. Only Brees' greatness masked that problem. We got Manny Sanders a year too late, imho.

40 times aren't everything, granted. But the 40 does measure whether or not someone has a single elite trait (long speed) which unquestionably matters at the WR position. (Again, don't hear me saying "IT'S THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS!!!")

For every WR prospect with an elite 40 time who flames out, there are at least 10 more with pedestrian speed that don't stick in the league because they don't have any elite traits.

Of Warren and Loveland, the only one I want in round 1 is Warren. We already have plenty of one-dimensional TEs. We need a true receiving threat at TE who is also a plus-blocker. Warren isn't the only guy like that in the draft, but he's the only upper-tier TE who fits that bill.

It's way down the list to me, a nice thing to have but there are 3-4 things much more important....the all time WR list kind of confirms that IMO.....

Man, my buddy and I had just saw Smitty at a tennis exhibition in December. He was with his wife and kids. He and his wife was a customer of mine about 15 years ago (I don’t like Smitty btw, he’s a grade A ***hat but was a really good player). I remember his kids being small back then. Then I saw this and just had to shake my head. I kinda thought he would get more backlash from this ordeal but I guess not.
Dang, sucks hearing that he’s a douche but I guess it doesn’t surprise me. I hated him while he played as he tore us up but I sure do respect his game. Or did. Lol

It seems you’re not really getting my point (you’re arguing against things I’m not actually saying) but that’s fine.

Likewise.....yes speedsters tend to get drafted higher than mere mortal WR's, and that is more often than not.....a mistake.....

His rankings:
1. Golden
2. McMillan
3. Egbuka
4. Burden
5. Royals
6. Harris
7. Bech
8. Higgins
9. Bond
10. Ayoman
Golden and McMillian appear to be first round. I think we can get Egbuka, Burden in the 2nd round? Ayoman in 3rd or so.

Why no love for Egbuka? Of all the big-name WR's to come out of "THE ohio state university"....he owns the record for most catches. He's 6'1"/205 lbs, so it's not like he's tiny. And he meets our most important WR criteria: TOSU.

The Saints didn’t take what I call a chance on Colton. He was a late 7th round pick with a reputation of the dropsies. Many thought they drafted him to convert to TE however he wowed the coaching staff in mini and training camps so they left him at WR. He turned out to be possibly the best player the team ever had that didn’t get any post season awards and that is a shame.
Sure enough. I didn't mean chance like taking a big risk to draft him. I meant they took their chances with him over the other players still available.
