Still feels odd to me that we have opened up so much cap space (29 Viewers)

It's the truth, not a story.

Have you ever had to build a staff that relies on an agreement negotiated between two or more parties? If you haven't, then that would explain not understanding the process that Moore, Loomis and Carr had to follow.
No, that’s your speculation of what happened. The talks about Carr at QB likely happened during the interview process as that is a big issue to decide if you want to hire Moore or if Moore wants the job. I do hire people, but I don’t need to hire people to know that. It’s just common sense.

Totally agree. I do not blame DC at all, not one bit.Teams screw over players all the time.

I do very much hope that this is Carr’s last on the team, wish him well and thank him for his services but he’s just not the future imo.

I’ll be very sad (football wise) if he is here next season too.
And what if we win 10-11 games and a playoff win???

It's not speculation. Moore said himself that he took the job with the expectation that Carr would be the QB. That's straight from Moore. It's not speculation. Thinking he didn't mean what he said is the actual speculation.

No doubt Loomis and Moore talked about it, but Carr was not involved in those talks. That's why both Moore and Loomis had to have a conversation with Carr before an agreement could be finalized. Moore and Loomis both understood that Carr had a say in the matter, so they didn't jump the gun before talking to Carr.

I do hire people, but I don’t need to hire people to know that.
Hiring people is not the same as building a team of people to work together that require contractual agreements. Have you ever had to negotiate a working agreement between two or more parties that involved contracts?

It’s just common sense.
Apparently it isn't.

Then I’d have no issue with him coming back for another year most likely. This is not to bash Carr or the team but I don’t think we have to worry about that scenario at all.

How many seasons has Carr been in the league? How many playoff wins does he have? Heck how many times have his teams made the playoffs?

And I don’t think our team is going to the playoffs this season unless we nail the draft ala 2017.

I’d love to be wrong and will be along for the ride either way, as I have been since 1980.

What I like about the situation is that the Saints have the option of keeping Carr if he has a good year or moving on from Carr if he doesn't. They haven't blindly locked themselves in either way.

Next year, they will be able to make a decision on Carr based on how things play out this year. They don't have to guess, they can wait and see.

I’m actually very excited for this upcoming season and I haven’t really been since Sean left.

If he isn’t a post June 1st cut next year his cap hit is like 70 million, right? That’s pretty steep, they would probably have to all agree on an extension to make that even work.

The consensus seems to be that the specific details of the contract structure make it tolerable to part ways with Carr next year if they want.

I'm no expert on the cap, but I do know from history that Loomis does a good job of giving himself multiple options. I know some don't see or acknowledge that, but every year he has options that no one saw coming.

The problem and it's not exclusively to you it's that people think that the QB ANY QB is solely responsible for the W/L record of the team . it is a TEAM sport and the one that relies the most on the TEAM. Again I'll say. the QB does NOT play defense , he is NOT responsible for how the D performs. On offense a team in the NFL has a 60/40 pas to run ratio. So that means that 40% of the plays the QB is involved with he is HANDING the ball to the RB. AND the QB can hit the WR square in the hands and he either drop it or tip it in the air to be picked off , and HE get's the INT stat.

Please bud, be smarter that those that say this QB or that QB does not have a winning record therefore he is a avg or bad QB. The HOF is full of QBs that don't have a winning record

I don’t disagree with any of that. It’s definitely a team game, I’ve said before I don’t dislike Carr or think he’s a bad QB.

I just don’t think you win BECAUSE of him. Do not think he elevates anyone around him. I don’t think he’s going to take us to the promised land, and I really don’t think he’s ever going to take any team there. Pretty good body of work backing that up.

As I’ve also said I sure hope to be wrong. Very wrong, of course about him leading us to a playoff appearance and win.

Elevate? Maybe but lets look at MVS. He was on the scrap heap and because DC was able to hit him on some well thrown TD passes he was able to get a 5mil+ contract for 1 yr from the Seahawks. Now , would that be elevating?

I also love when people say " This QB will never take us to the SB" Do I need to list all the SB QBs that people said that very same thing about?

I respect that you see things differently, that’s all good.

Speaking of taking a team to the Super Bowl and the QB’s that have…I’ll place a wager with you.

$200 says Derek Carr never wins a playoff game.

I hope I’m wrong and he wins several, with the Saints, and that I’d have to pay ya. 😊

My point being tho that I don’t think Carr will ever win in the playoffs…much less get to a Super Bowl.

I’m not even trying to harp on all of that and I don’t dislike Carr, just think it’s wild to speculate about Carr and Super Bowl or playoffs at all as it’s never happened. Think one appearance iirc and zero wins? In what, 12 or 13 seasons?

You're not getting my point bud, QB's don't win or lose playoff games. TEAMS do
