Tankathon: Saints top 5 draft pick watch-Updated (15 Viewers)

We can’t go quarterback because the top will be gone and we can’t move on from Carr/ Spencer in 2025.

Don’t need a running back or offensive tackle. Too low a pick for a guard or center.

So we trade back for a late 1st round and take a (tight end) and a 2026 1st round pick.

I think we would be best served loading up for 2026 with draft capital to get our franchise quarterback. The franchise will have to rejuvenate fan interest by then.

I approach each season with optimism but 2025 IMHO is a write-off.
Not sure how you figure we do not need a RB! Who besides AK41 do we have that’s worth a shoot?

So, is the 2026 draft class supposed to be better? I am hoping for a QB in 2026, 2027

I mean we don’t need a running back with the 10th pick with AK and Miller in that role. Basically the need doesn’t warrant the 10th pick IMHO.

Basically, root for Ws by the Raiders vs Chargers and Chicago vs Seattle to get to #8. The other 4-12 teams have SOS so low that a win doesn't move the needle.
This is correct. Although the Jets play the Bills. If they win that could move the needle. It appears right now that #8 is about the best we could expect with a loss to the Bucs but #9/10 is the most realistic.

Tankaton updated the SoS since I posted. Jags win or loss shouldn't matter at .474 SoS. All the games this week are divisional so SoS should NOT move much.

Carolina (.496 SoS) play an 8-8 Falcons.
Jets (.500 SoS) play the 8-8 Dolphins.
Saints (.507) SoS play the 9-7 Bucs.
CHI (.544) and LVR (.555) definitely matter.

I have no idea why you’d want a TE in the 1st unless it’s a Bowers clone, and we all know there isn’t one of those in this draft. The only other position I wouldn’t want at #10 or wherever else we end up picking is a RB bc we already have our RB1 for the next couple years in AK, who proved she’s still got it.

I also have no idea why you wouldn’t want us to draft a LG with pick 10 either if the fo believes him to be an all-pro caliber player. We desperately need to improve on the OL, and the only player we have coming back next year who could start there is Saldiveri, and he didn’t exactly light it up this year.

I would like us to trade back (if there’s a suitor of course which is no guarantee) into the mid/late teens - let’s just say with a team like Seattle who’ll be picking around 18. I would hope they’d be willing to part with their 2nd and 4th this year. Ideally though, I’d hope a team that makes the playoffs and gets bounced in the first round with an early/mid 20s pick feels like they are 1 player away, and they’d be willing to give us something like we gave for Davenport: a 1st next year and a 3rd this year.

Bc spending a 1st on a RB when we alreadyhave AK and Miller doesn’t make sense. Yea AK is getting older and Miller has injury issues, but (assuming all things are equal) a starting caliber DE, NT, NB, CB, SS, FS, OG, and WR would help this team more than the best RB in the draft.

Im all for drafting a quality starting caliber RB at some point in this upcoming draft (someone like Skattebo in the 3rd) to be our RB1 for the next 5 years, but we have way too many starter holes to address first especially when you consider the prevalence of quality RBs who will be available.

You can pick up a quality running back as an UDFA, so there’s really no need to overpay for one. Obviously if you’ve filled some other needs, you might get a better one with a 4th or 5th but I’d be absolutely bummed if they threw a top 2-3 round pick on an RB.

Running back is an important spot and the position is factoring in to some of the teams in contention this season, but we have so many other pressing needs at the moment.

Maybe we can have the luxury of dropping a high pick in 2026 for one - as we’ll likely be drafting high again next year. Sadly.

Knowing what you know, if the following players were available in the 3rd round this year when the Saints were on the clock, who would you pick? How would you rank them for the Saints to pick? And yes, the idea is that you know what the first 8 seasons (or lack there of in some cases) will look like. Using this info, who would you pick first for the Saints today, in 2025, out of this cloud of players that were similarly ranked by teams in 2017? And again yes, you would be adding a fresh out of college Kamara to a back field that includes 8 year veteran Kamara if that's your choice.

Ahkello Witherspoon, CB, Colorado, position rank #14 (according to ESPN)
Alvin Kamara, RB, Tennessee, position rank #4
Dewayne Smoot, DE, Illinois, position rank #9
Cooper Kupp, WR, Eastern Washington, position rank #7
Pat Elflien, Center, OSU, position rank #1
Dan Freeney, OG, Indiana, position rank #3

Ok can i get the cliff notes, what do we need to happen today to get a better draft pick? Saints lose, Raiders win, Bears win?
