Taylor Swift & Dave Matthews to perform, Saints / Vikings Pregame show (2 Viewers)

To Mr. Thumbs Down:

I understand why they included Taylor Swift. The NFL is always trying to broaden their fanbase and she's a family-friendly megaselling pop star. Still I could also understand the big thumbs-down for her since she appeals mostly to young girls. But Dave Matthews Band is one of the best bands around today and have been for quite some time. Their musicianship is off the charts and they put on an amazing show.

Plus, they are a band with nationwide appeal who just so happens to LOVE New Orleans. While I'm not a huge fan of their music (I do like some songs), I love seeing them play live because their improvisational skills are so impressive. They will put on a great show for however much time they are allotted to play.

Here, allow me to give you the thought process behind grading this with a massive thumbs down:

I don't like them.

Yeah, that's pretty much it. I don't like either of them and really won't want to watch so a negative kinda felt appropriate.

Well then the good news for you is that once their hour-long concert is over, you get 3 hours and change of the Saints whipping the Vikings from one end of the Dome to the other.

And I'm sure you can get behind that.

Sure. I'm just not quite understanding why you wanna start a ruckus because somebody doesn't like something you might like.

Im glad it's Taylor Swift and Dave Matthews since it will be going on about the time I am making my way into the Dome. Now I dont have to worry about missing out on any good bands because I was getting inside in time to see the banner drop. Excellent !!!!

she appeals to me and im a grown man

I agree, she appeals much more to me, a 36yo, then the whiny/moaning sound of Matthews.

I just never "got" Dave Matthews, and never will.

If I'm gonna watch a "guy" band, they better rock.

So, those attending the game do not get to see the kickoff concert? Why not in the Dome?

My first thought when I saw the musical entertainment for the game was they should have gone with at least one local band. There's an awful lot of musical talent to choose from in NOLA as we all know. I understand the "marketing" thing the NFL is doing, but I'd still like to see at least one local act.

Skip the NFL pregame and go see a local act. It's what I'd do if I were in town.

This. Im sure there will be plenty of local bands set up in different areas around the downtown area. Im hoping to get a babysitter early enough to get downtown for the festivities.

I knew that wasn't going to happen. Heck, for the homecoming in 2006, it was Goo Goo Dolls, U2, and Green Day. If they didn't have local acts for that, they definitely weren't going to have them for this. For better or worse, the NFL wants acts who are considered "big-time" all over the country. Major moneymakers. (And for what it's worth, I was at that game and U2 and Green Day brought tears to my eyes, so I wouldn't change a thing there.)

New Orleans has some great music and great musicians, but with the exception of a few rappers, it's been quite some time since any bands or singers from here were considered major acts all over the country. Aaron Neville was probably the last non-rap artist and that was over a decade ago. And Lil Wayne is not only NOT a Saints fan, but is also in jail.

The best you can hope for nowadays is a great local artist doing the national anthem.
