TE Juwan Johnson re-signed to 3-year deal (17 Viewers)

I'm pretty sure ther started doing more stuff like that with him and stopped trying to keep him inline where he struggles. Just let him be a Big X/Receiving TE.

He didn't look as fat either down the stretch, so maybe they had him shed some weight.

I think some of that was that at the end of the year they had no WRs and Johnson had become the #1 option for short to medium passes. I think Kubiak probably prefers in-line TEs and tried to use him wrong early in the year. In addition to the fact that the TEs had to be kept in to chip to help our Tackles early in the year.

But, I have hope that Moore will figure out the best way to use Johnson. He has talked in the past about getting to know each player, figuring out what they do best, and then using them that way on the field. I think he can unlock Johnson which likely means splitting him out either wide or in the Slot by using motion.

I feel like he should have been used as a big X

Well sure, but isn't it rare to want a skill player to be positioned differently, and it happens?

I wanted alot more Ingram & Kamara in the same personnel groupings. Didn't get it.

I wanted Taysom to be given one more QB shot because, despite his read and touch deficiencies, it was bad luck he banged his thumb on the Cowboy helmet in 2021. He was playing better and he brought the mojo. I don't recall, maybe Allen ended him as a QB.

Some people want Alvin lined up more at receiver. He's nearly already in space there, and why instead bang him through the line? He'd be an instant joker out there. Plus Derek needs to get seamlessly comfortable throwing checkdowns, which made Drew Brees lethal in the short game.

Based on Moore's history, he's frequently going to be the "nub" TE opposite of trips wide. That could be a really interesting formation and a fun offense to watch.

Wow, this is surprising. I guess Moore sees something in him that I don’t. He’s been given every opportunity to step up his game and hasn’t taken advantage of the situation. Can’t imagine another season with him starting at tightend.

Yeah, everyone gets a fresh start with CKM.

He did have his best season last year with 50 rec/548 yds/3 TDs and a 75.8% catch rate. That catch rate is nice.

Juwon matched up against a safety or LB is gonna be interesting. My ONLY issue with him is he's oft-injured. I think he's a solid player when he's healthy, but he just hasn't been the healthiest.

Its on him to justify that contract. Sheesh that's a lot for him.

Terrible signing in my opinion. His production comes nowhere near that. He has always been that "slips into the seam" tight end who disappears after that. What we need is a dominant tight end that you have to account for. Heck for that money we could probably have signed Engram who is a significant upgrade over Johnson. Was really not expecting this and am disappointed.

It was inevitable I guess. He's a guy who is young enough, and just productive enough, that you re-sign him and kick the can. They HAD to cut immediate (cap) fat somehow. You can just cut guys and deal with the immediate pain, or you can restructure. I've always been for the tear the band aid off method, but no matter who you cut, you have to sign someone to their spot. Might as well "invest" in the players who can potentially contribute. As we cycle through some of these deals and more money opens up, so will our options. It would be impossible to acquire all of our needs at once and manage the cap perfectly at the same time. No matter what anyone wants to say, the Saints have been limited by their past decisions and this is the kind of move that proves it. Sure, if you want to continue down the same path, you can claim you don't have limits while kicking the can further. But if you want to improve your options, you have to deal with it somehow. The way they seem to be going about it is at least palatable. Short term restructures to players who aren't at the end of their career kind of makes sense. And Mickey can claim we are playing for today as he markets tickets, which drives all of their decisions. Whether he admits it or not, this is a form of rebuild taking place, within the limitations we have.

We may be drafting a te because I don’t see how you have him as the 1 at te he’s not a decent enough blocker so him in the lineup kinda would be a key for me as a defender for a pass or toss play is the top te in the draft looked at as a complete te or is he just a pass catcher because that will probably be the deciding factor on a him or jeanty situation

That's the hope at least. Look how he schemed Goedert (a not very athletic guy) to get wide open all season

The Saints will likely run the ball for a while. It wouldn't shock me to see two TE's on the field quite often. If they have a true TE who can block, I can see Juwan as a secondary blocker who can occasionally break off and run a route. I don't think this signing excludes them from drafting a TE at all.

Yeah I agree 100 percent that’s why I asked is the top te a complete te because if he’s just a pass catcher I doubt they grab him at 9

You're a tool
Why am I????
You liked the Chase signing, but not this one? Thought we were all to rejoice at bringing back dudes who “has a ceiling that haven’t been reached yet”???
