TE Juwan Johnson re-signed to 3-year deal (17 Viewers)

I think it's the right course. Run it back with the same group, with as many roster holes filled as we can.

I truly believe this is not as bad of a roster as it is made out to be. We just need to get some reinforcements added at a few key spots and stay healthy.
Outside of Todd Graham... I thought we had pretty good position coaches last year for the most part.

Not sure the lack of depth is going to improve this season, either. Players are going to get injury and every injury felt brutal because the drop off was evident.

Will keep posting. We weren't as bad as our record, we just lacked a middle class to sustain us during the injury fiasco. You can start to build up a middle class in this draft, but as far as talent...this is a top heavy talented team.

While I prefer to have seen Johnson move on, I think it's important that we all keep in mind that we don't know what vision Kellen Moore has for him. We have seen coaching changes effect players both negatively and positively over the course of the last 2-3 years.

I think we will see Johnson flexed out more by Moore (heh) than Kubiak or Carmichael. He's really a flex/move TE and not a good enough blocker to play significant snaps in line. I think Moore will take advantage of his size as a sort of big slot the way Payton used to do. Kubiak was forced to keep his TEs in line to protect Penning and Fuaga (to some extent). He only really flext Johnson out late in the season when we had no WRs left.

Hopefully Moore has a better plan to get the TEs involved in the offense and has to spend less time protecting our Tackles in pass protection.

It's about fit, Harris is not a fit in Staley's system
For 2 years 8 mil I would have tried at worst you have a solid backup. Still could have drafted a replacement. But honestly this is more a shock that we paid Juwan 10mil per.

I agree. His strengths were neutralized trying to play him like a San Fran style TE. That's just not his game. He's a receiver at the position and they have use him like one.

Ties him with Taysom Hill for 11th highest AAV for tight ends. It's more than I would've paid him but again we convert dead money into real money and an actual player which is good.

You just hit it on the head...
He hasn't been used correctly!
JJ can run. He ran a 4.58 forty at the combine. That is close to Brock Bowers speed!

I'm OK with this deal. What would have ticked me off was if the Broncos snatched and he continued development into a major big-time weapon there. It's a whole new offense now, so hopefully he can continue improving. That said, if Warren is there at No. 9, I still want him, even over Jeanty.
I think we need to look at the guarenteed money and not the bloated figure. It’s probably a 3 yr 21M guaranteed or 7 m per year, just 1M raise, ??

Everyone's favorite film watching publication had Juwan rated as the top rated free agent TE, for what it's worth.

I have seen him ranked either first or second on most free agency previews I have seen.

Perhaps we are too harsh on our own and we view some guys unfairly for being under the funk of Dennis Allen.
Very well said, thanks for posting this.
